Homework (Unit 3, Ex.4-10)

Ex.4, p.62
Qubit, quantum, parallelism, bizarre, to cease, ion, simultaneously, photon,
microscopic, to utilize, entanglement, decoherence, conscious, polarization.

Ex.5, p.62
What I know about quantum computers: they use cubits for work, have a great
computational power.
What I would like to know about quantum computers: the principle of their work.
What I found out about quantum computers: how they actually work.

Ex.6, p.62
1. B. 2. A. 3. C.

Ex.8, p.63
1. How do quantum computers differ from conventional computers?
Quantum computers use qubits instead of bits.
2. Why do you think a quantum computer is called "the Holy Grail"?
Maybe because all illnesses can be cured (receipt can be found) and all problems
can be solved both with "the Holy Grail" and quantum computer.
3. What does the Moor’s Law say?
Computing power will double every two years, as transistors get smaller and
smaller
4. What is a qubit?
Bits that have 3 states: either a "0" or a "1," or both simultaneously − a
characteristic called superposition.
5. What devices do scientists use to control qubits?
Ion traps, optical traps, the impurities in doped semiconductors, quantum dots,
superconducting circuits.
6. How useful is quantum entanglement in computing?
If you interact with a qubit in superposition to determine its value, it will
immediately change.
