A. Course overview and goals:


English for HRM is becoming increasingly important as more and more companies need their
staff to be multi-lingual. Human Resources Management is a primordial mission, especially for
executives and business owners who find their HR responsibilities far more complex.
Nowadays enterprises and state departments need technically knowledgeable yet
comprehensive staff with information and skills (language skills) to help align their companies’
HR policies with their overall business objectives. Hence, this course is designed to provide
students with a detailed account of the major trends in the field of Human Resources
Management. Specifically, the course is meant to help students better meet the future job or
business opportunities acquiring the necessary skills. The goal of any English for Human
Resources Management Course is to allow its users to effectively communicate with others in
a work environment, whether that communication is in correspondence, face to face meetings,
or other methods. Therefore, such a course may include topics such as:

 English readings on Human Resources Management.


 Terminology related to the field of Human Resources Management.
B. Course Requirements:
1. Attendance and participation: Attendance is mandatory and so is participation. So,
students are expected to be in class, on time, and prepared for whatever is planned for
that day. If they cannot attend a class because they must participate in an outside event,
or because of an emergency, they should let me know ahead of time. If they miss a class,
they are still responsible for any assignments and materials presented in class.

2. Presentation: In pairs (or groups if necessary), students will have to deliver and submit a
presentation about one of the chapters specified in the schedule. Presentations must cover
the different chapters of the book Human Resources Kit for Dummies.

3. Assignments: Individually, students must complete tasks and answer the questions in
reading texts assigned, and actively participate in class discussions.

4. Article review (Masters and PhD students): Based on students’ own choice, they
must individually review one article from relevant sources in their field of study. The
reviews will be presented orally in class.

**Note: These readings will be made available to Students online via edmodo’s course management
system. To access it, they should go to www.edmodo.com log in as a student typing the class code

E. Grading policy:
Final grades will be determined as follows:
Final Exam: 40 % of the Presentation and participation: 40% The module is validated if

review: 20 % or superior to 10 out of 20.
