THARI TRUST SPEECH FOR FEMMES D’EUROPE PROJECTS CEREMONY

Femmes d’Europe Project

Femmes d’Europe is supporting Thari Trust to construct a kitchen at St Ann High School

St Ann High School was founded in 1999. It currently has a roll of 64 students. The school serves 8
villages in the area, with a population of about 1500 families. It is in a mountainous zone, in a
deprived area. The school has been underfunded since its inception, and Thari Trust is helping with
infrastructure development with a view to supporting better education delivery. Specifically, Thari
Trust will be building toilets for the school and is requesting funding for the construction of a
kitchen.

The kitchen will ensure that the students eat at least one cooked meal per day during the school
week. Thus it can reduce student drop out due to poverty and inadequate nutrition, and sustain
extra-curricular activities to enhance education delivery.

Extra-curricular activities open fundraising possibilities for the school through concerts, drama, and
engagement in sports, thus offering the students future vocational opportunities.
The kitchen will be supported by a kitchen garden which will be planted at the school as it has
enough land for a good vegetable garden.

Femmes d’Europe has provided Thari Trust with support since its registration in Lesotho. For
example, one of the big achievements has was the approval by Association Femmes d’Europe
aisbl for our application for assistance in order to supply science laboratory equipment for
Manonyane School. This is very exciting for Thari Trust and the schoolchildren who will soon be able
for the first time to put to practice all the science theory they’ve learnt.
