STORYBIRD TUTORIAL

1. Go to http://storybird.com/ > Click SIGN IN

2. Sign in with your username (Firstname5digit lunch number - EX: Joe12345) and
password (Firstname4digit password - EX: Joe6789) > Click SIGN IN

3. Click CREATE
4. Choose either a piece of artwork or a theme to start > Click on your choice

5. Click USE THIS ART

6. Select LONGFORM BOOK (multi-chapter), PICTURE BOOK (multi-page), or POEM


(single image)
7. Click and begin writing your story in the blank space to the left of the artwork (WRITE
YOUR STORY HERE)

8. Click the "+" at the bottom right to add a new page

9. Click and Drag a picture from the gallery onto the new canvas > drop the photo on
either the left or right side to leave room for the text > Click on canvas white area to
continue writing the story
10. Add text > click the "+" to add a new page (lower right) or "-" to delete a page (lower
left) >

11. After the "-" (bottom left) is the storyboard (pages) of the story > The blue speech
bubble above a page indicates the current page

12. Use the left (<) and right (>) arrow keys on the bottom right to go to previous page or
to forward ahead

13. Click the SAVE button to save work done on a regular basis > time of last save will be
displayed to the right of the SAVE
14. Click the MENU button for options to INVITE COLLABORATOR (a friend to work on a
story), PUBLISH (when the story is completed and ready for others to read), or SAVE &
CLOSE (to save an incomplete story not ready to be shared with others)

15. Click on COVER to add a cover and title for your story.

16. Invite a collaborator by clicking MENU > INVITE COLLABORATOR or clicking YOU from
top menu bar > YOUR STUFF > Click Gear icon > Invite Collaborator (limit to one
collaborator)
17. To Publish, click MENU > PUBLISH or from YOUR STUFF > gear icon > PUBLISH
a. Verify cover (opportunity to change) > verify title (opportunity to change) >
write a Summary (click in box - summarize story so others will want to read it)

b. Choose 2 categories > Tags (optional) > Written for (click on age level) > Privacy
(always Private) > click PUBLISH
18. Once published, the book information includes author(s), artist, summary, details
(page count and age appropriate rating), category (EX: Tween) > Click SHARE button to
obtain embed code or sharing information

19. LOG OUT - Click YOU > Last option LOGOUT username
20. Notifications - Click YOU > YOUR STUFF > NOTIFICATIONS - This is where collaborator
requests are received

21. Click on Story Title to see request information

22. Click ACCEPT INVITE (to collaborate) or DECLINE (not to collaborate)

23. The storyboard will appear to be worked on


24. In collaboration mode, option to switch turns is available by clicking MENU > SWITCH
TURNS

25. Class Library - YOU > CLASS


26. View stories that your classmates wrote by clicking on it > View Assignments by
clicking ASSIGNMENTS > class list will follow - click on student name to view published
stories

27. Ready to start creating a new story? Click WRITE in top toolbar > starts at step 4

28. Want to read StoryBird created stories? Click READ

29. Select by Categories, Format, or Age
