Ceramic Art Reflection

I started to plan my work, by planning the amount of time it will take me to make 5

squares and a handle from clay then I had to plan how I was going to glaze my Ceramic Piece.

First, I started to decide on if I was going to use the Ceramic Piece for some sort of food, but I

decided not to so I sticked with the normal glaze. After deciding on using edible or non-edible

glaze, I started to plan out the colors and what I wanted this piece to look like. I realized that It

was the month that 8 years ago I moved from my childhood house so I wanted to make it look

like that. Some of the ingredients I used for this art piece is Unity, Color, Space. I glazed the

whole Ceramic piece except for the bottom of the piece. For color I used yellow for the outside

and a darker color on the top surface edges. I also maintained a lot of space for the windows

which were perfectly centered in the middle.

I was never good with clay in previous Art classes my pieces would explode in the kiln

and I really wanted to have a Ceramic piece at home on a shelf that I made. At the beginning of

this unit, I was terrible at kneading the clay. I was getting so many air bubbles, and I was getting

frustrated that this was taking longer than I expected it to take. I finally saw one of my friends

kneed which helped me kneed my own clay, Soon after that I finally got a square without air

bubbles, I was so happy and I continued to my other pieces using the same method. Most of my

goals were met. I used the right color of glaze I had the size, but I didn’t meet my goal for the

roof of the piece, So I had to improvise and use a arc as the roof which actually was better than

making a other square and then giving it a handle, As I thought about my new design for the roof

I saw it as a advantage my piece had, A handle that lets you hold it without having the fear or

dropping it.

My inspiration for this art piece was to make it a fruit bowl in the shape of my old house.

It was 8 years ago that I moved to the US leaving my old house behind in India. This inspired me

to make my Ceramic piece on my old house. An interesting discovery I made about myself is

how much I missed my old house and how many memories I had there. If I had one more chance

at this, I would do more research on more kneading techniques to make my squares faster.

The meaning behind this artwork is that everyone always thinks about the past and hopes

to go back to it, but it would never be the same so making art pieces like this that reminds me of

my old house It really gives me flashbacks. This artwork came as intended to my planning

except for the roof which was supposed to be a square but Instead was a arc which actually looks

better and has a better use for it. I remember my house being the brightest in the whole neighbor

hood it was a bright yellow and when the sun was up it was so bright I couldn't look at it for

more than 10 seconds. This art piece was made as a documentary to capture old memories of

childhood.
