ABSTRACT

Background. Family support can provide a sense of pleasure, security, comfort and emotional
support that will affect mental health. Therefore, family support is needed in patient care, can
increase the spirit of life and reduce patient anxiety and strengthen the patient's commitment to
undergoing treatment (Ulfah, 2017).

Destination. The relationship between family support and anxiety levels in pre-anesthesia
patients with spinal anesthesia at Cut Meutia Hospital, North Aceh.

Method. The design of this study is descriptive analytic, with a cross-sectional approach which
was carried out from April to May 2022. The population in this study were patients with spinal
anesthesia with a total sample of 37 respondents. The sampling technique used is Random
Sampling. Data collection tools used in the form of observation sheets and questionnaires.

Results. Respondents who received family support on average received family support in the High
category with the results of 30 people (81%). Respondents experienced moderate anxiety as many
as 19 people (51.3%), moderate anxiety as many as 12 people (35.1%), severe anxiety 7 people
(19%). There is no strong relationship between family support and anxiety in pre-anesthesia patients
with p value = 0.804 > 0.05 and r value (correlation coefficient) of 0.042.

Conclusion. There is no relationship between family support and anxiety levels in pre-
anesthesia patients with spinal anesthesia at Cut Meutia Hospital, North Aceh.
