Job-Scope
K-104-Passivation air compressor tripped due to high temperatures in 3 rd stage. Maintenance was carried
out on urgent basis as passivation air is critical for stripper bottom dome corrosion and temperature
control.

Problem
K-104 3rd stage high temperature tripping.

Observations
Following observations were made in third and fourth stage valves,

1. Excessive deposit was found in third stage suction and discharge valve bodies which indicated
improper working of auto-drainers and SOVs.
2. Same deposit was also observed in forth stage valves with same comprehension.
3. Crankcase oil level was found okay.

Work Done
In order to deal with the emergency following activities were performed,
1. 3rd stage suction and discharge valves were replaced with reclaimed ones.
2. 4th stage valves were also replaced with reclaimed ones.
3. Cylinder ports were cleaned.
4. 3rd and 4th stage cage O-ring were replaced with new one.
5. Fresh crankcase oil was put in service and used oil was drained out.
6. Compressor fan, cooling coils and casing were thoroughly cleaned externally using utility air.

Parallel Activity
Instrument I carried out complete maintenance of SOVs assembly in parallel with the machinery
activities. The compressor was taken into service without any discrepancy.
