Beat the heat
PREVENT HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS
To prevent heat-related illness, you should take these actions:
• Drink small amounts of water frequently, even if not thirsty.
• Avoid sodas, coffee, sports drinks, and energy drinks.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing.
• Rest in the shade
• Move to an air-conditioned place or take a cold shower
in order to cool down
• Wear sunglasses or wide-brimmed hats, and also apply
sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun.
• Report heat symptoms early
• Remember the three words: water, rest, and shade.

• Bushings were replaced on site
Findings/Conclusions
• Laboratory analyses confirmed wear caused by foreign VSV bushing
debris in inner/outer sleeves
• Debris contained aluminum oxides, sulfur, and chlorine
• Premature wear attributed to increased friction
from debris
Recommendations
• Inspect condition of VSV system and clean per VSV debris

Applicable TM2500 Gen 8

Background
• During a Gas Turbine event, aerosol discharge was indicated on the alarm page at the Display Monitor
(HMI), however there was no actual/confirmed release in the Turbine enclosure;
• Communication cable was not rated for low capacitance conductor
Investigation/results
• Datalogs indicated that RESET action was not performed by operator to activate aerosol discharge;
• Communication cable compromises Fire and Gas system and can cause fire suppression agent not to
be released from the Discrete Input/Output Module (DCIO) if fire occurs
Enhancements
• Replace Communication Cable with higher impedance cable

Background
Lateral exhaust
• The nuts and washers installed in the exhaust collector to
extension scroll exhaust flange might become prematurely loose
during transport and/or operation
• The nuts and washers might be found inside the enclosure when
they become completely loose, creating a gap through which hot
gases might leak
Investigation/results
• In the assemble between the exhaust collector and extension duct
there is a fiber gasket to seal this joint
• The thermal growth cycling contribute to lose the bolt pretension
Enhancements
• Replace current set of bolts, flat washer, grover washer and nut by a
new set of bolt, flat washers and self-locking nut where is possible

Background
• Assembly line inspections revealed incorrect

hot air to leak into the gas turbine enclosure
Investigation/results
• The tadpole seal and clamp were installed Incorrect assembly

Background
• It was identified that the hydraulic starter pumps electric
motor (MOT-6015) direction of rotation arrow is indicating
incorrectly for operation – Motor arrow shows CCW
• (Left Hand) and the pump requires CW (Right Hand).
Investigation/results
• The motor CCW rotation motor cooling fan will not provide
enough cooling air to the CW rotation motor per the motor
engineering requirements. This will result in overheating
and damaging the motor if operated for more than 30
minutes continuously.
Enhancements
• Changing the current motor cooling fan from CCW rotation
to CW rotation will provide sufficiency cooling to motor to
help meet engineering requirements

Software reference

Background
• It has been reported in some sites with RX3i/Micronet+ split
architecture that the emergency stop totalizers increases
their count regardless an actual emergency occurs even in
maintenance of the GTG
Investigation/results
• Emergency Stop totalizers in the mentioned RX3i application
are not conditioned to count exclusively when the gas turbine
is running with the fuel system active
Enhancements
• Updated software to help ensure an emergency stop is only
counted when the fuel system is active. This will help ensure
the totalized number of emergency stops is accurate

Liquid fuel leak on pressure transmitter tubing
Applicable TM2500 Gen 8 with Liquid fuel

Background Metal clamp

• Liquid fuel leak on PDT 2020 tubbing observed in at least 2 different sites without soft

Investigation/results
• Findings after the investigation show
• Metal clamp on tubing without cushion material in between
• Tube rubbed against metal clamp
• Tubing clamps become loose due to the high vibration
• Other tube was forced to fit into the fitting (misalignment)
• Forced tube condition in combination with vibration lead to the failure and leak
Enhancements
• Manufacturing Process for clamp installation reinforced
• Technical Specification TS00001764 updated to add a proper clamp with cushion Part
No to be used on shop and field installations according to TS; 11353-4.
• Design Practice AEPDP 205 updated to include this Lesson Learned

MGTB1 overheating
Applicable TM2500 Gen 8 and Xpress
Background
• Several trips were reported due to lose of communication in certain signals.
Investigation/results
• Investigation found lost signals are located in the MGTB1 electrical cabinet
which is mounted in the generator wall.
• It was discovered the electronics presented intermittent failures and the
temperatures readings shows high temperatures in the cabinet
compartment so do in the components surface.
• Analysis was done and found several causes for the overheating in the
MGTB1, Anticondensation heater permanently turned on, air gap to
dissipate heat is not present, heat sun light.
Enhancements
• Standard configuration has been updated to include the control logic for
anticondensation heater
• Electronic components layout arrangement updated to include a gap for
heat dissipation
• Sunshield developed to cover MGTB1 cabinet when specific weather
condition or unit orientation impacts the internal temperature.
Field recommendations
• Product Bulletin PB-LM2500-IND-0316 will be issued by 2Q 2022

Vent outlet 1
Background
• LM2500 Universal units are getting high temperature GT alarm
during hot days
Investigation/results
• Fan is not properly sized for all ambient conditions
• Enclosure roof was engineered for specific vendor direct driven
Fan middle
fans and included separation of the two fan inlets that inhibits plate
flow through the common plenum used on Credit Fan assembly
Enhancements
• New fan configuration for Future units
• Package Enclosure Modification to increase the airflow inside
the package and improve the ventilation.

Hydraulic starter - Pump coupling adapter upgrade
Applicable LM2500 Universal, TM2500 Gen 8 and Xpress
Background
• Customer have reported at least 7 Hydraulic Starter identified problems
• Adapter coupling installation is the most likely cause of identified problem
• Similar identified problems have been observed on other Product Lines
• Shared effort started on 2021 to investigate and find best long-term solution
on the LM6000 PL, 2022 will utilize applicable engineered upgrades.
Investigation/results
• Engineering team conducted field investigation next to supplier to determine
Root cause.
• Lack of a Technical Procedure with Detailed instructions to install or
reassembly adapter coupling & Hydraulic Start Pump Electric Motor to
assure a proper alignment and gap between adapter and coupling is one of
the major contributors to this observed issue.
Enhancements
• Technical Procedure TP2155 Hydraulic Start Pump Electric Motor
Installation has been created to to detail steps required to install the
hydraulic start pump and electric motor for an LM2500/TM2500 package.
Field recommendations
• This procedure can be utilized in the factory or field and is applicable to new
assemblies or if only replacing individual components.
• TP2155 is available upon request to CSL.

Compressor Discharge Pressure (CDP) purge system

What is it?
GE has recently engineered a new system which will allow the TM2500
Gen8 unit to operate on liquid fuel for extended operating hours or
continuously while the on-engine gas fuel equipment is connected.
How does it work?
• CDP Purge System continuously purges the gas fuel system with CDP air
to prevent fouling
• This system maintains full load fuel transfer without reduction in
generated power
• In addition to this CDP purge system, there is additional Balance of Plant
(BOP) equipment required to complete the overall package upgrade
Customer benefits
• CDP Purge System will allow the TM2500 Gen8 unit to operate on liquid Applicable to: SAC DLE
fuel for extended operating hours or continuously while the on-engine
gas fuel equipment is connected Base
• Options are being developed for the other TM2500 generations and will Plus
be available soon New +G4 
