Reaction Paper -1

Seven months ago, I was in Mindanao attending a wedding. A nephew of my wife was so close
to her that he bought her a plane ticket just to not miss his wedding. And as for me, I just tagged
along with her to show my love and support. Its been years since she saw her family just to live
with me here in Bulacan. There I saw a similar learning center, and like in the video it brings me
joy to see the smiles on the face of the children. Hope of a better future is evident in their eyes.
No one can deny that Mindanao is facing a transition period because it went through an armed
conflict in the past. And in that conflict, children are sometimes become victims, cought in the
crossfire of that conflict.

What is impactfull to me was to see parents of the children giving their full support to the
project. Specially when they give phraises to the efforts of the teachers to their kids. They don’t
like their kids to end up like them who can’t neigther read or write.

Lastly, for me the star of the show are the teachers. It is evident that they themselves were the
first to undergo that transition. Where they become the catalyst for change in that community and
maybe for me the whole nation. I say this because Australian support may be a big deal but
without this individuals attending their trainings and seminars which they learn in English. But if
this learning was not converted to their native tounge all will be pointless. Ginawang lokal
