Back in Belmont, Bassanio sailed off to try and

save his dearest friend. Portia called Lorenzo

and Jessica and told me that they were to be
in charge of the house.
A few days later, Antonio came to the court-
house with Bassanio and his other friends.
Then, the Duke let Shylock in and told him
that everybody expects that he will forgive
him. Yet, Shylock said he wants the pound of
flesh from Antonio just because he hates him.
When the Duke tried to change his mind, he
said that he is his slave and he will do what he
wants with him. The lawyer, Bellario, whom
the Duke was expecting, sent Balthasar. He’s
a young man who said that the law is on
Shylock’s side, yet he asks him to show mercy
and take the money but he won’t change his
mind. So, she asked to bring a doctor so
Antonio doesn’t bleed. He also needed to not
take more or less than a pound or else, he will
lose all his land and property. This shocked
Shylock. Then, he finally agreed to let him go
and take the money from Bassanio. But Portia
insisted on taking the pound. Shylock said he
doesn’t want either, so he had to give half his
money and property to Antonio and the other
half to Lorenzo and his daughter. He agreed
and left. Bassanio made Portia ask for what
she wants, but she wanted the ring his wife
gave to him. He refused as he made a
promise to his wife to not give it away.
Antonio told him that she deserves it so
Bassanio gave it to her. Then Nerissa and
Portia got back to Belmont.
