Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs)

I understood that Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASDs) are a group of related-brain-

based disorders where the behavior, social, and communication skills of a child are

affected (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2006) ASDs are lifelong and have no cure,

but the children with these conditions can develop and learn new skills with time. Very

few parents come to understand that their children have ASD until they grow toy be some

years older. I have also learned the several symptoms ranging from behavioral,

communicational, and social differences that can be noticed in children who have autism

(Keller et al. 2015). I have learned the most common symptoms of autism being difficulty

in communication, being less responsive and having repetitive behavior. I have also

learned the several types of ASDs which include High- functioning autism and

Asperger’s syndrome.

Currently, I am involved voluntary work of educating the young parents on how

to detect the ASDs in their children early and help provide therapy to these children.

Information is essential when it comes to promoting health of the children with autism

and helping them develop the motors which they have failed to develop. Many parents

consider the ASDs as mental problem, and lack of information can worsen the case with

fewer children becoming less responsive. I am also planning on committing a little of my

money and time with people mental disabilities. Mental disability is one of the most

severe impairment and these patients need help. Helping them will make me feel to be

doing something good for society.
