Polyurethane is characterised by excellent mechanical properties such as high
tensile strength, abrasive resistance, tear strength and extrusion resistance.
Therefore polyurethane is the state-of-the-art sealing material for most modern
sealing solutions.
RUBBER materials
(NBR / H-NBR / VITON / EPDM / SILICON)
Compared to polyurethanes, rubber materials have worse mechanical properties
and therefore a lot of rubber seals are considered „old“ style and displaced by
modern polyurethanes.
But due to good chemical and thermal resistance it is used quite often for special
applications.

Duroplastics ( Teflon ) materials

Polytetrafluorethylen (PTFE) is characterised by outstanding resistance to
chemicals and good thermal resistance.
Main disadvantage when used as a sealing material is the tendency to creep or
cold flow and its non-elastic properties.
Therefore PTFE seals (virgin or filled compounds) are nearly always used together
with elastic rubber materials or metal springs in order to provide the necessary
contact pressure and preload.
