Task 3

The secret lives of animals, toys, bugs, and monsters lurking in the closet aren’t such a
big mystery anymore. Moviegoers have got films such as Flushed Away, The Wild and
Madagascar showing 1them what animals get up to when humans are away; the Toy Story
series showed them the adventures toys land 2themselves in when no one’s looking; while
Monsters Inc. revealed the bustling world of monsters to them.

Therefore, when the tagline to Barnyard proudly declares that it’s all set to reveal the secret
lives of animals, moviegoers aren’t impressed anymore as it has been done before. This “secret
lives” business may have been a good thing initially, but 3they already had too much of it.

Similar to Finding Nemo and The Wild, the film uses a father-son relationship as the thrust of
4
its story. It’s a pleasant film and the jokes hit 5their marks – the farmer being "hit" by a tree
branch is hilarious. And like many movies of its genre, the film has its fair share of adorable
characters.

The film centres on the inhabitants of a barnyard who love to party! They’ve got everything
they need for a rockin’ shindig – a live band, great music, and a party animal like no other in
Otis, whose father Ben disapproves of 6his partying ways.

Task 4

In recent times, the involvement of women in professional boxing has gained much
publicity and criticism. Even more so, it has proven that women have come a long way in sports.
1
This is especially true in sports traditionally avoided by women. One of these sports is boxing.
Although this sport is rough and extremely dangerous, many women have become involved in
2
it.

In a recent female boxing match, a large number of the male spectators did not expect
to see a show of professionalism. Most of 3them came with the idea that boxing would be
reduced to ‘feminine’ hair pulling and face slapping. What 4they witnessed instead was a group
of female boxers who displayed skill and sportsmanship. 5This goes to show us that female
boxers are obviously on par with their male counterparts.
