Course Description:
This course discusses the theories and concepts of destination management with a
comprehensive approach that emphasizes planning, development, and marketing a
destination.

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course:


1. Analyse tourist destination demand.
2. Identify destination offerings determinants.
3. Understand the management system of a tourism destination organization.
4. Apply the marketing mix concept to a tourist destination.
5. Analyse tourist destination attractiveness and competitiveness.
6. Understand the importance of planning in the development of destination tourism.
7. Create a tourism destination development strategy

Course Policies
Academic Integrity. Students in this course will be expected to comply with the
Palawan State University Academic Integrity. Any student suspected of violating this
obligation for any reason during the semester will be required to participate in the
procedural process

Academic Dishonesty. Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated in this course.
Engaging in such behaviors will result in a failing course grade. You are to do ALL of
your own work. Plagiarism is defined as representing (and using) another person's
ideas, writings, and work as one's own.

Class Participation. Students are expected to prepare adequately for, and to


participate actively in every discussion. Although not explicitly graded, you will be
evaluated on the QUALITY of your contributions and insights. Quality comments
possess one or more of the following properties:
·Offers a different and unique, but relevant, perspective;
·Contributes to moving the discussion and analysis forward;
·Builds on other comments;
·Transcends the “I feel” syndrome. That is, it includes some evidence, , or recognition
of inherent trade offs. In other words, the comment demonstrates some reflective
thinking.

Class Attendance. Students are to send the Instructor a brief e-mail to explain their
absence in advance. Students who have missed classes are responsible for the
materials discussed or assigned and comply accordingly of what is required.
Students are to follow the University's policy regarding the maximum number of
absences allowed per semester. Students are also given a grace period of 15
minutes unless, will be considered as absent. However, students may still attend the
class.

Course Requirement Submission. Students are to strictly follow the date of


submission of class requirements.

Examination. Students are required to take the examinations according to schedule.


A special examination may be given provided that the student has valid reason(s)
with corresponding documents such as excuse letter signed by parent/guardian,
medical certificates (in cases of sickness) and / or other documents. Make-up quiz
and exam is permitted only if a signed excuse slip signed by the Dean is presented to
the Instructor within 10 days after the schedule of examination.
Professionalism. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional
manner. Unprofessional behavior such as the following, but not limited to are
discouraged:

• repeated disruption of class (habitual walking in and out during conduct of class),
• doing other course work in class,
• ringing and use of mobile phone and other electronic devices,
• frequent side conversations with other students,
• use of electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, and other electronic devices
without permission,
• rudeness toward any person will be considered a serious violation and may affect
student's grade accordingly and may result to dismissal in class.

Conduct of Event. Students are to conduct their event with the opportunity to apply
the concepts learned in class to a real life situation. They are expected to fully
manage and conduct the event on their own with minimal supervision from the
Instructor. The Instructor will be responsible on guiding and facilitating the student’s
event, however the management and conduct of the event will be students’ role.
Students will be graded based on their group and individual performance of the tasks
assigned to them.

1. Course Work (Assignment, Classwork) 10 %
2. Professional Development 20%
(Class Participation- Recitation, Group Presentation)
3. Quizzes / Long Quizzes 20%
4. Major Exam 20%
5. Final Requirement Activity 30%
