1. WHAT IS HISTORY? WHY STUDY HISTORY?

FOR ME, HISTORY IS THE STUDY OF PAST EVENTS AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE IN THE PRESENT.
IT'S A WAY FOR PEOPLE TO REMEMBER THEIR SHARED HISTORY AND REFLECT ON ITS
SIGNIFICANCE. WE CAN LEARN ABOUT OURSELVES AND OUR FUTURE THROUGH STUDYING
OUR PAST.IN ADDITION, THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PAST AND THE STUDY OF IT ARE
REFERRED TO AS HISTORY. IT IS THE MEMORY OF THE PAST IN THE FORM OF A STORY, AND
ALSO A FORM OF COLLECTIVE MEMORY.

AS AN HM STUDENT, LEARNING ABOUT OUR PAST HELPS US MAKE SENSE OF WHO WE

ARE AND WHERE WE CAME FROM, WHICH IS WHY STUDYING HISTORY IS SO VALUABLE.
THE GOOD AND EVIL OF THE HUMANITIES MAY BE SEEN IN RETROSPECT BECAUSE OF
THE LESSONS WE CAN ACQUIRE FROM STUDYING HISTORY. LEARNING ABOUT THE PAST
HELPS US BETTER UNDERSTAND OUR OWN CULTURE AS WELL AS THE CULTURES OF
OTHER PEOPLES AND PLACES. LEARNING HOW OTHER CULTURES VIEW THE WORLD
AND HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT VARIOUS ISSUES MIGHT TEACH US TO RESOLVE OUR
DIFFERENCES IN MORE CONSTRUCTIVE WAYS. THE STUDY OF HISTORY IS MERELY A
MEANS TO AN END—AN END THAT IS A BETTER COMPREHENSION OF THE HUMAN
CONDITION AND AN ACCEPTANCE OF MORE POSITIVE, HEALTHFUL LIVING CHOICES.

THE STUDY OF HISTORY IS VITAL TO ALL MEMBERS OF OUR SOCIETY SINCE IT PROVIDES
EXPLANATIONS FOR EVERYTHING.HISTORY IS A VITAL SUBJECT TO STUDY, DESPITE THE FACT
THAT ITS OUTCOMES ARE LESS OBVIOUS AND IMMEDIATE. KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT TRANSPIRED
IN THE PAST SHEDS LIGHT ON THE CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS. WE CAN BETTER UNDERSTAND
OUR OWN HISTORIES AND THE HISTORIES OF THE CULTURES WE LIVE IN, AS WELL AS DEVELOP
THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO STEER AWAY FROM PAST BLUNDERS AND FORGE FORTH ALONG
MORE FRUITFUL AVENUES.
