Graphic Organizers
Quarter No. 2 Week No. 7 Day: 2

Activity Title
Graphic Organizers

KEY CONCEPT

➢ Organizing idea needs to be clear and specific to make it more understandable to readers
➢ The following are graphic organizers that will help you organize information on its specific details
➢ Study and analyse for you to be able to answer the next activity

Common Types of a Graphic Organizer

1. Tree Diagram- depicts the hierarchy of tasks and subtasks needed to complete and objective
- It starts with one item that branches into two or more
- It resembles to a tree, with a trunk and multiple branches

Example: Non-linear
School Management Team

School Principal

Office-in-charge

Department Heads

Department Head Department Head

Disciplinarian Disciplinarian

Guidance Counselor Guidance Counselor

Adviser/teacher Adviser/teacher

Linear
School has always its management team. This is to ensure quality, organize and
peaceful institution. The principal acts as the overall head of the school. Without the principal’s
presence, the office-in-charge takes over the supervision. In addition, department heads help
control and supervise, especially for the big and large schools.
To maintain and or control students’ behaviour and to guide them towards holistic life,
the school disciplinarian takes his or her action to correct misbehaviour. But before the concern
reaches through the disciplinarian, the adviser or the teacher shall settle first inside the
classroom by talking to the child or conduct home visitation. And if misbehaviour persists, the
adviser now consults the issue to the guidance counsellor.

3
2. Venn Diagram- comprised of series of overlapping circles, each circle represents a category
- To represent the union of two sets, we use the U symbol
- The spaces outside are written the difference, while the space that overlapped is
for the similarities
- This is used to compare two or more things or idea.

Linear

Trez and Blu are siblings. They both love dancing, singing and playing toy guns.
Despite being brothers, they have different physical aspects. Trez is the eldest who has a
curly hair, fair complexion and a mole above his left eye. Blu has a straight and shiny
hair, dimples on her cheeks and a brown skin.

3. Flow Chart- represents a workflow or process

- A step-by-step approach to solving a task
- Shows the steps as boxes of various kinds and their order by connecting the boxes
with arrows

until the yolk dissolves. Lastly, put the pan on medium heat of the fire, pour small amount of
cooking oil, sauté the spices then pour in the egg wait until cooked and serve.

➢ As you notice, there are words added in making the linear form, those are what we call transitional
words.

➢ Transitional words, conjunctions that join words, phrase or clauses together.

➢ Study the table about transitional words below that will help you transcode non-linear to linear texts.

KEY CONCEPT:

➢ Non-linear text, does not progress or develop smoothly from one stage to the next in a logical way. It makes
sudden changes or seems to develop in different directions at the same time.

Examples: flow charts, charts, graphs, graphical organizers

➢ Linear Text, reads the piece sequentially from beginning to the end.

Examples: stories, reports, speeches, newspapers and the like

Instructions: Read and analyze the flow chart below. Write the process of making a kite into a linear form.

Instructions: Read and analyze the paragraph below. Fill in the Venn Diagram provided.

Frogs and Toads

Frogs and toads are different in many ways.

Frogs spend most of their time on water, while toads spend most of their time on land.
A frog’s skin is wet and smooth. A toad’s skin is dry and bumpy. Frogs have strong, long legs for
leaping. Toads have shorter legs for hopping. But they are both amphibians.

Activity 3:
Summer Fun

Every summer vacation, I, my cousins and friends get the chance to play under the heat of the sun. We happily fly our kites at
the open field.
Before flying those kites, we first make some. We actually compete whose kite turns the best flyer and at the same time nice to
see while dancing on the air.
Let me share to you the steps… First, we prepare all the materials needed like the sticks, used plastic bag (but still in good
condition), scissors, thread and a long nylon. Next, we cut the sticks into equal parts for the skeleton of the kite. Then, we cut the plastics
into the shape of the kite (diamond) using the scissors. Tie every corner tightly. Put on the tails. Lastly, Tie the long nylon and test its flying
skill.
That is how simple the way we create our kite. But you can also enhance every detail to make it more beautiful.

Activity 4:
Frogs- spend on water, skin is wet & smooth, strong, long legs, leap
Toads- spend on land, dry & bumpy, short legs, hop
Similarity: amphibians (center)
