Bill Meridian: The Power of Eclipses

Note: The following is a transcript of Bill Meridian’s talk given to the 2020 Astrological
Association Conference, which was held online. An edited version appears in the
November 2020 edition of the Astrological Journal with a note saying a full transcript is
available – which is this document. This transcript has been kindly made available to the

My teacher Charles Jayne said: “A really adequate discussion of the significance of visibility areas of
eclipses and transits would fill a large book.” He said this in 1947 and I think this correct because it is
endless. A lot of this work comes from Dell Horoscope magazine which I am sad to say published its
last issue in April after 84 years in business, one Uranus return, and I wrote for them for one Saturn
return.

This is what the magazine used to look like in the war days, for $.10. They had Sun sign columns about
what it was like for each Sun sign to be in a bomb shelter. They started publishing in 1935 and in 1941,
a woman called Elizabeth Aldridge using the Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions in 1940 to 1941, accurately
predicted the outbreak of World War II. Then that column was taken over in the 1940s by my teacher
Charles Jayne up until about 1958. I want to thank Dell Horoscope because in the late ‘80s they allowed
me to photocopy anything I wanted and that is where all this material comes from, and otherwise it
would be lost. Also, thanks to American astrology there are a lot of obscure journals that I picked up
a lot of information from.

Before I get into the tedious details of how you determine which eclipse is yours at birth this is my
natal eclipse path:

Bill’s eclipse path

I was born April 25th, 1949. About three days later there was an eclipse, a solar eclipse, on my Venus,
in the 4th house, and I have always lived in beautiful places. Your birth eclipse, where it falls, will
energise that area for the rest of your life. It is not like there is a full moon coming up and it will fall
on your Mercury, so you get a lot of phone calls and have a lot of transportation. Or you have an
eclipse on your Mars, so you feel very physically active. The birth eclipse energises that area for the
rest of your life, if it gets re-eclipsed it is a major event in your life, it is something you will always
remember. Now, there are total eclipses and when I started doing this there was no software which
showed the partial shadow, so it was not until the middle to late ‘90s that I could see this shadow.
This shows the ‘path of maximum intensity’ runs right through Vienna, Austria, and shadows Eastern
Europe. At New York University when I was just getting out of graduate school, I became interested in
Ludwig Von Mises and the Austrian School of Economics. At that time I had trained to be a
psychotherapist for nine years, and the wife of the Chief Psychiatrist was a philosopher and her father
was a philosopher, whom I only found out 10 years ago, was born in Vienna, Austria. And in New York
I met my wife, who is also from Vienna, and after living in Abu Dhabi instead of going back to the
United States, we went to Vienna; that is how important that point is in my life. The white lines you
see, those are the AstroCartography map, you can superimpose the eclipse path onto an ACG map

and see where you get crossings with the white and the black lines. You can see here my Mercury and
my Venus lines intercept the ‘path of maximum intensity’ and I have spent a lot of my time in coffee
houses, listening to live music, writing, and that is how it has worked out for me.

Eclipse paths and ACG maps

For my wife, the eclipse line [in red] starts in Madagascar and ends in New York. She was born in
Austria and moved to New York where she met her first husband whose origins are from Madagascar,
this is her ACG map superimposed with the eclipse path. There are extension lines, these are parallel
and perpendicular lines drawn from the Sunrise point, the Sunset point, and the Noon point. If you
project straight up from Madagascar it intersects her Venus line at Abu Dhabi, which is where we lived.
If you go horizontally it intersects her Venus IC line in Rio de Janeiro, which is where her first husband
proposed to her. The eclipse cuts through her Jupiter Midheaven line right through New York which is
where she always found ample employment, so these are the important points in her life.

My objective here is to give you a basic idea and show you some examples from normal ordinary
people, because a lot of examples are Kings and Queens and most of us do not make it there, and how
these work out in a regular, plain, ordinary lives like our own. The idea came from Edmund Troinski,
who developed tertiary progressions, his notion was that when an eclipse occurred, think of it like an
umbrella that you are holding up, it would have a control and rulership over the events that occur plus
or minus 3 months from the date of occurrence. Johndro, an astrologer from California living in Los
Angeles was a Mathematician and radio engineer, his astrology was very advanced even by today’s
standards, he died around 1951. He worked with a man named Ken Brown of Cleveland, Brown being
the front man, bringing in the business and Johndro being the man that developed advanced
techniques, in order to give good advice. Jayne told me that they were the astrologers that did all the
work for the legendary stock market trade of W.D. Gann. Of course, there was Charles Jayne himself
who was quite funny in his delivery and it was quite a challenge to edit his work because he never
discovered the magic of punctuation. Johndro developed the idea of the birth eclipse thinking that if
an eclipse occurs, like I said myself being born April 25th and then April 28th there was an eclipse, that
eclipse is the ruler, or Lord, of that time period and anything that occurred within it. If a social club is

started, a corporation, a team plays its first game, any event, it is under the rulership of that eclipse.
That was the hardest thing for me to accept when I started reading this in the ‘80s. As that eclipse
chart moves forward, you progress the chart of the eclipse and if Jupiter or Saturn become prominent
then all the entities under that eclipse feel it, some will feel it quite directly because their charts tie
into the eclipse chart quite closely, then there are some people whose do not tie so closely, so the
effect is variable. But that was the idea. Jayne developed the idea much further, Johndro came up with
concepts and it might be one line in an obscure magazine and never repeated, but Jayne would find
these ideas and applied them again and again and developed concepts and additions to the rules. So,
if the eclipse has something to do with you then the eclipse’s shadow must be very important. And
Johndro wrote, and this explains it: “For most of us, however, the eclipses that affect our nativities are
anything from a few days to 6 months, and in some cases a full year before or after our birth dates. In
any case, the prime consideration is not just how near this or that eclipse falls to a birth date, but
whether the eclipses, or the planet thereat, closely overlay or closely aspect any of the natal planetary
positions. If they do, then that eclipse chart is extremely important to you; because in such case the
eclipse or its planets intensify or amplify any planet they configure in your birth chart… And by eclipses,
I do not mean merely the position of the eclipse itself, I mean the position of any planet or planets at
the time of an eclipse relative to any planetary position in the nativity.” To summarise, Johndro would
look plus or minus 6 months, which is what I do, and what Jayne did, and then do a synastry between
the eclipse chart and the person’s natal chart. For example, if the eclipse greatly energises the person’s
Mars and that person is an athlete, the eclipse and the shadow are both important. In the case of
Charles Harvey, two eclipses were both essential, I could not distinguish the strength of one from the
other.

Bill and the 1949 oil field

In Abu Dhabi, in 1985, a Saudi television show came on. It was about the largest oil field and it says it
was hitting its peak production and it came online in 1949, the year of my birth, and I thought ‘this
feels like a peak in my career as well’ and looking back it was. So, the oilfield and I were ruled by the
same eclipse, as I said it does not have to be a living being, it can be a club or corporation. Johndro
also wrote: “Eclipses quite largely define issues for whole groups. But eclipses forward destiny through
the medium of mortals far more than merely through varying the climate, the rainfall, the crops, etc.
That is to say, men are so born in time as to respond, in an allotted way, to some particular cosmic
purpose delegated, so to speak, through the eclipses. The importance of your allotted role depends
greatly upon if and how your nativity ties in with the eclipses (and their) planets in and around your
birth year.” The eclipse itself is the whole group, it energises individual people to fulfil that task. When
he says “in an allotted way”, the eclipse of April 1949, that affected people in different ways, with me
you could say, fortunately, it was on my Venus and it is amazing how many people during my life have
asked me if I am in show business. I have a lot of friends who are artists, in fact my friend who is an
astrologer, Carol Furman is now one of the world’s most famous sculptors and when I am at an art
show people come up to me and ask “Bill are you an artist?” and I say “if you took me to an art gallery
I could not distinguish a Rembrandt from a Beethoven, so no I am not.” I just had this eclipse fall on
my Venus. “Readers must not suppose an eclipse is affect on mankind is limited to the date thereof;
not that events follow in the exact order of the eclipse sequence. Rather, eclipses are the highlight
patterns of the trends of their joint times.” [Edward Johndro, 1930s]. We just had an eclipse in
December at 4° Capricorn and now we have had one at 0° Cancer, anybody caught in the middle of
that is energised, if they are hit by the first eclipse you know they will be energised by the second
eclipse. Charles said after 50 or so years of research he was uncertain of the length of time an eclipse
was in affect, but the rough rule of thumb, which is what we use is 90 days in advance of a Solar eclipse
and as long as a year afterwards, for a Lunar eclipse, it was up to six weeks prior and six weeks
following. For example, say the eclipse falls on a client’s Jupiter and the client says to the astrologer,
“I think this could be the start of something big” you can assure your client that is true. 90 days before

the Solar eclipse is conjunct Jupiter, it begins to heat up and as you get closer and closer to the eclipse,
it is getting hotter and hotter and the transit to the natal Jupiter of the client is more meaningful, more
energised, they will hit a peak and for the next year it will decline somewhat in effect.

The Eclipse Rules

1. Events which occur in the days around an eclipse are memorable. The ‘time orb’ is plus or
minus 10 days. Events taking place in the 7 to 10 days before an eclipse work out in an
unexpected fashion. Affairs take turns that are not anticipated. [Jayne]
2. Solar eclipses can have an effect up to 3 to 6 months before they occur and as long as one
year afterward. Their lunar brethren have an effect for about 6 weeks before and after the
lunar eclipse. [Jayne]

This is important and easy to use, ‘time orb’ is an idea or a concept that comes from Johndro and Jayne
developed the rule. He shortened the timeframe to 7 days and said it lasted up to 48 hours after the
eclipse. For example, the marriage of Lady Diana to Prince Charles was a week before an eclipse, if an
event occurs on the day of an eclipse then it is fated and if the eclipse sweeps one up, it is like being
in the surf you have to let the wave carry you, you cannot fight it. This is something that I use whenever
I look at a situation or anyone’s horoscope I tell them in a week prior to the eclipse it is best to defer
decisions until the week after the eclipse because the week before the eclipse you are, so to speak, in
the shadow of the eclipse and the week following you will uncover news, or discover something that
will change your mind and will cause you to make a different decision. I went to change jobs as an
astrology student the week before an eclipse and Jayne told me it will not work out and that turned
out to be true. If you are forced to make a change in the week prior to the eclipse then it will work out
in an unexpected fashion, you will have to make extraordinary efforts in order to achieve your goal,
you will run into all sorts of things you could not possibly expect. When Jayne wrote for Dell during
World War II and the military campaigns started in the week prior to an eclipse rarely went as planned.
As I said, sometimes a client is forced to make a decision and if that person cannot extend the deadline
then the astrologer can advise the client based upon the position of the eclipse and all the planets in
the eclipse chart as to how to proceed and what the person might face. Now, our current President
just kicked off his campaign with a talk in Tulsa, Oklahoma only hours before an eclipse, so we will see
how that works out.

3. There is a difference between the 7 to 10 days before and the 7 to 10 days after an eclipse.
4. The events occurring before the eclipse take on the added attribute of being unpredictable
and fated. The period of unpredictability to last until 24 hours after the eclipse. Matters work
out unexpectedly. If one must make a decision in the week prior to an eclipse, then expect to
make significant changes in your plans in order to reach your objective.

There is a sharp difference between events in the week before an eclipse and the week after an
eclipse, any event occurring near an eclipse is going to take on extra importance but in the week prior
to an eclipse there is an element of uncertainty and the week after the eclipse there is not. So, if your
birthday is in the week prior to an eclipse you have a very unexpected year coming up, a lot of changes,
it is a year you will remember. However, if your birthday is one or two days after the eclipse it is simply
going to be an important year, but matters do not necessarily work out unpredictably.

5. Eclipses near birth have an effect upon the life of the individual. This eclipse may occur before
or after birth. [Johndro]
6. If the natal eclipse is again eclipsed, the effects are powerful.
7. Rules governing the eclipse paths:
A) The total eclipse of the strongest

 B) The central path is the most powerful part of the eclipse’s shadow

My experience with an eclipse on your Sun is, it strengthens everything related to the Sun, your will,
your desire to accomplish things, you become fairly indefatigable and you refuse to accept any defeat.
How many of us heard the name Julian Assange before there were eclipses conjunct and opposite his
Sun? Or how about the 1963 John Profumo affair? An eclipse conjunct his Sun, there is talk about
making him high in the government, he was a Minister of Defence at the time, six months later the
eclipse opposes his Sun and he is swept up in a scandal involving prostitutes that removed him entirely
from the public eye. That is the effect, an eclipse conjunct your Sun emboldens and strengthens you,
opposite your Sun, I can guarantee you, it is like being knocked down on the soccer field, suddenly you
are looking up at the sky wondering ‘how did I get here?’. And as I have said, if the native eclipse is
eclipsed again, I have found that is particularly important.

8. If an eclipse occurs after your birth, see when it comes exact by secondary progression. This
can be a vital year. [Johndro]
9. If a natal planet is conjunct or opposite this eclipse, the planet becomes very powerful for
life. [Johndro]
10. Eclipses conjunct are opposite the Sun, ascendant or midheaven are always more powerful.
This is due to the fact that these points have zero latitude by definition. The eclipse will also
have zero latitude. Thus, there will be conjunctions and oppositions in both longitude and
latitude which are very powerful. [Jayne]

Of course, the total eclipse is the strongest, the central path is the most powerful part of a total eclipse,
if the eclipse obscures 50% of the sunlight, then it is only half as powerful as a total eclipse, if it’s 75%
of the sunlight, so. In other words, a total eclipse is the most important eclipse, a partial eclipse is a
not nearly as strong. If an eclipse happens after your birth, I was born and five days later there was an
eclipse by progression, so eclipses by progression are quite important. The one I will always remember
is, I was writing for Dell and I am looking at the horoscope of Bill Gates and I noticed there was an
upcoming eclipse by secondary progression, then a transiting eclipse out of the ephemeris fell right
on the progressed eclipse and I said to myself, “what could possibly happen?” I thought he might step
down as head of Microsoft and certainly that was the time he made the decision to do charitable work.
That is the only example I have of an eclipse by secondary progression being eclipsed by transit and
as you can see it was most powerful. Eclipses conjunct or opposite the Sun, which I have already
mentioned, but I include the Ascendant, the Midheaven, and the Nodes, they are always much more
powerful because the Sun’s path defines the plane, the Ascendant and the Midheaven are on that
plane. If an eclipse is conjunct or opposite the Sun, they are not only conjunct and opposite in
longitude, they are conjunct and opposite in latitude. It is what Jayne would call a linear configuration.
He wrote a pamphlet about this called ‘A New Dimension in Astrology’ which he had written as an
article in Dell in 1948. These are extremely powerful, any eclipse on the Ascendant, Descendant,
Midheaven, IC conjunct or opposite has zero latitude, because by definition that is where the Sun is,
so you get a line-up. if you remember the movie 2001 where all the planets lined up and some great
thing happened, that is a linear configuration.

 Karl Marx eclipse path: 5 May 1818

My favourite example, born on the day of an eclipse, Karl Marx 5th May 1818, his theories were
designed to affect the working-class of England and Europe, but of course the first country it swept
through was Russia. He was born on the day of the eclipse, so he was the embodiment of the idea,
and we all know his name today, that is how powerful his Sun energy is.

Born on the day of an eclipse: General George Marshall was born on the day of the December 31,
1880 eclipse. He was a planner of the D-Day invasion.

Born on the day of an eclipse, General George Marshall was born December 31st, 1880, he was the
planner of the D-Day invasion for the US Army and the path connects America to Europe.

Robert E. Lee: The eclipse aspected his Mars

One of my favourites, Robert E Lee, commanded the Confederate Force during the American Civil War
and the eclipse energised his Mars, in order to express motion energy he went to West Point and he
became a military officer and led the Confederacy defence against the Union invasion and that line is
still very active today. Harriet Beecher Stowe who wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin one of the key elements
that brought all these racial tensions to everyone’s mind, is also on the same plane and intercepts this
path at the side of the Gettysburg Battle. Recently, if you remember the eclipse that swept through
America a few years ago, they called it the Great American Eclipse, whose statues were they tearing
down? Robert E Lee’s. Isn’t that coincidental, that the eclipse intercepted Lee’s and Harriet Beecher
Stowe’s eclipse and suddenly the American Civil War is on everybody’s mind, not quite in the right
mind, but it is on the mind.

 Extension lines – Douglas MacArthur

I will touch on this briefly, it is quite simple, extension lines. This is an actual article from the Astrology’s
Guild Journal, and it was done by Charles Emerson. That is the General Douglas MacArthur who
Commanded the US forces in the South Pacific, you will note the dash lines, the dash lines are drawn
from the Sunrise point, the Sunset point and the Noon point and they run horizontally and vertically.
So, the Noon point, if you run straight North, through Hawaii, the Sunrise point if you run it Westward,
runs through Manila and if you run it North it runs through Tokyo, and it runs through next to his
offices in New York City and his birthplace in Little Rock. These are very simple to do.

 Karl Marx path with extension lines

This is Karl Marx with his extension lines, and you will see the focus on England and France based upon
the lines I have drawn in. We start out with the eclipse path, we add in the ACG map, either of the
person or if you are doing Mundane work you use the eclipse, and you also draw the extension lines
and this will pick out precise areas on the globe.

There are three types of people to work with:

1. Those born close to an eclipse, like myself, and Karl Marx.

2. Those born from two months from one eclipse and four months from the other, like President
Bill Clinton.
3. Those that are born equally spaced between eclipses in time.

With case number 1, if I am born April 25th and there is an eclipse April 28th or if you are like Karl Marx
and you are born on an eclipse, that is it. Those born about two months from one eclipse and four
months from the other, like Bill Clinton, then you have to take the eclipses and weigh them carefully.
The eclipse that landed on Clinton’s Midheaven, which is also his Sun-Moon midpoint, we ask are
male/female relations important in the career and reputation of Bill Clinton? Yes. So, when that eclipse
was repeated there were very important events in his life and that is how that eclipse was determined.
In other words, an eclipse on his Midheaven, as a little boy he was career orientated and he watched
political speeches on television and these events occurred when the natal eclipse on his MC was re-
eclipsed.

What to look for

There are four criteria:

1. Time.
2. The fit of the eclipse chart to the natal chart
3. The path of the eclipse
4. Repetitions of the eclipse and their effort on the person.

Point three, if you know a person that moved to Hawaii and built a successful business there, it would
be the eclipse if the shadow ran through Hawaii, I would look there first. If the Time element is not
obvious, I would go to points 2, 3 or 4. The fit of the eclipse to the natal chart, Johndro pointed out
sometimes this can simply be the person is successful and was born Jupiter trining Uranus and the
orbit of the eclipse is very tight and the person is very, very inventive, if that eclipse chart makes the
trine tighter then that defines the person, that is evidence that might well be the eclipse that you
should look at.

Born on the day of a Lunar Eclipse

I wanted to point out that this person like the current President is born on the day of a Lunar eclipse,
he is an investor.

This is the area of visibility, at the bottom I have the arrows, that Lunar eclipse does not cast a shadow
so this matter can be attained from Occult 4.0, this comes from the International Occultation Tracking
Association, IOTA, and this software Occult 4.0 is a free download. It gives you a little map of the
eclipse and all the data that you need you need to look at Lunar eclipses and the linear configurations.
This person and the current President only need 4 to 5 hours of sleep per night, that is the advantage
of being born under this, it gives you a shot of energy that little sleep is required.

This is the chart of a lady born on February 14th, 1934 in Copenhagen, this is her natal path in red

She and her husband, whom she met in Africa, the extension line intercepts her Venus line in Eastern
Africa. She meets him, he is from the area around Sumatra, they could afford to retire and engage in
their favourite activity, sailing, in the region around East Asia. They were very concerned because she,
having been born on the day of an eclipse, read my book, and knew this was her eclipse and they
wanted my advice about going sailing. They thought it was like the Bermuda Triangle they were going
to wind up on Neptune or something, so I calmed them down by reading that eclipse chart and
compared it to their charts.

Born in Russia – Katarina, Jul 12, 1979 3:10pm Leninsk, Kazakhstan

This is a friend of mine, born in Russia July 12th, 1979 in Leninsk, Kazakhstan. Her mum and dad have
PhDs in Space Technology, so they were sent to the Secret Soviet Cosmodrome at Baikonur in
Kazakhstan. That is where she grew up and started to study ballet and you will notice the Moon
conjunct Pallas in Aquarius, her mum is a space scientist and a big influence in her life. I determine
that this is the selection of eclipses:

These are all the eclipses I considered as being hers and compared them to her chart.

Comparison to eclipse 1

‘Eclipse 1’ is down in her 5th house 7°- 8° of Pisces, it is not making that many contacts to her chart, so
I went to the second one:

This one is at 29° of Leo up in the 10th house. Then I went to ‘Eclipse 3’:

When I went to this eclipse I said: “your mother must be a big influence on your life”, and “your mother
is a very brilliant person”. Pallas as we know is Athena goddess of wisdom and technical problem
solving ability, it is in Aquarius, so it has to do with all matters Aquarian. Sent by the Communist
Government to Baikonur, because of their degrees in Aviation and Space and that is where Mum took
her, age 5, to ballet lessons. I thought this one is far more interesting than the other ones because it
falls on a luminary, the Moon.

 Eclipse shadow through China

This is the eclipse shadow. She was born up in Kazakhstan, went to school in Moscow and then she
moved down to Vienna, which is where we met, in a café, in fact she looked at my screen and said “is
that a horoscope?” And when I went through this process with her she became a bit startled and said
“I used to speak all over the world, but the first place I went to dance overseas was China because I
wanted to study the dance there.” I later found out that her grandfather was sent there by the Stalin
Government and when he returned he was executed because he had simply been out of the country,
he had seen things that Stalin did not want him to see. So, when she gets to China, she goes to Macau,
sees a Brazilian man doing a dance she had never seen before and she enquired, he said “this is a
dance that is traditionally Egyptian, would you like to learn it?” She goes back to Russia, gets on
television and her interpretation of that dance made her very well-known and they would fly her up
to Moscow for television shows. Was this area in China important to her? Yes.

 This subsequent eclipse energized the birth eclipse. Appulse Lunar Eclipse, Aug 18, 2016
5:26:30am New York

I then looked at this eclipse, this was a few years ago and I said August 18th, 2016 her eclipse is going
to get eclipsed again and notice it’s conjunct Pallas and I said “you are going back to China” and about
six months later she called me and told me I was indeed correct. What happened was this eclipse in
2016 energised her birth eclipse and brought to the fore her feelings about her mother, her mother
actually came to visit Vienna. Again, this is the horoscope of one of us ordinary folks, not a King or
Queen.

Artist and illustrator – Mary Downing, Jan 28, 1938 8:03pm St. Louis

This example is of particular interest, this is the horoscope of Mary Downing, many probably do not
know her, born January 28th, 1938 in Saint Louis, Missouri. Mary was the National Secretary for NCGR

and she did all the initial layout for my books and unfortunately she passed away a few years ago.
Mary asked if I could identify her natal eclipse:

The eclipse – Solar Annular Eclipse Dec 2, 1937 7:10:38pm New York

I use the Uranian planets which is what the extra symbols are, so you will see the asteroids in there. I
zeroed in on the December 2nd, 1937 eclipse which was at 10° Sagittarius.

Synastry – Mary Downing and Solar eclipse

You will note it is on the IC of her chart, her Midheaven is ~10° Gemini and the eclipse is it 10°
Sagittarius, she has always worked for herself and she has always worked at home.

 90-degree dial

If you go to a 90° dial, you put this on the 90 you will see it picks out Cupido, the angles and Apollon.
Cupido is everything to do with integration, integration within the self, but it also rules artwork, to the
extent where artwork and singing traditional songs makes everyone feel unified, that is how Cupido
works. She majored in art and she was particularly interested in foreign cultures. Apollon makes things
widespread you can have far-flung and wide broad interests whereas Jupiter is big, Apollon is mini.
So, the area of the horoscope that has to do with learning about foreign cultures and artwork is
energised, as is the MC-IC axis.

 Eclipse shadow

The minute I looked at this I thought, “what am I going to do with a water eclipse? Do you tell the
client better luck next incarnation?” That is not the way to look at it, they can be valuable if you take
the extension lines:

The eclipse line is in red and I took the extension line to the point by Mexico and dropped the extension
line straight down, and it is not even on the map I had to draw that little star, a Masters thesis in art
was based upon the study of artwork of the people on Easter Island. So, this was quite an amazing hit.
You see it in her chart, she was energised to do artwork, the eclipse path tells us where that interest
is centralised or focused or where it comes from.

 London real estate investor – Jul 2, 1962 6:12am Limassol, Cyprus

This is a Turkish gentleman born in Cyprus, his office is in London, he was born with the Sun at 10°
Cancer, which is the heliocentric North Node of Jupiter and he is Jupiterian, to put it mildly, and very
successful in real estate. You will note he is born with his Sun and Moon there, as are two of the
Asteroids. Vesta is close by which has to do with investments.

Eclipses for the above

These are the eclipses I considered. His Saturn is at 10° Aquarius. And here we have a list of eclipses
at 15° Aquarius, 0° Virgo, 24° Capricorn, 7° Leo and 22° Aquarius, which one is the right one? Here is
the one I chose:

It is at 15° of Aquarius, it is conjunct his Saturn, and of course, Saturn is connected to real estate. It
does make him very disciplined and he is very exacting in his speech and conduct, and he owns real
estate. Let’s take a look at the path of that eclipse:

Eclipse path and extension lines

Again, it is in the water. But having learned from my earlier examples, if you run the extension lines,
it runs to California and on the other side if you run up the extension line it goes to the East side of
China. I said these areas must be important to you and he said the real estate group he runs, 75% of
the real estate investments, the profitable ones are in California or the east coast of China. So the
eclipse energises the part of his chart that has to do with real estate and the eclipse path picks out the
areas, obviously he is not going to build in the middle of the ocean, but the extension lines pinpoint
areas.

I have overlaid his chart onto the eclipse path and you will notice that the Sun and Moon conjunction
is on the MC running straight through the east coast of China, which again draws your attention close
to that part of the world. There is no need to be run the extension lines straight up but we will also
see these planets on the MC from his ACG map, I do not have this on the map but another important
area is Germany and they own most of the supermarkets in Germany, which is very obvious on the
ACG map.

A water eclipse path – Mar 1, 1968 2:55pm Nairobi, Kenya

This fellow, again highly unlikely eclipse path, he was born March 1st, 1968 in Nairobi. He is from
Pakistan, born in Nairobi and lives in Canada. You can see the Sun in the 8th house at 10° Pisces and
these are the eclipses under consideration:

I am looking at eclipses from April 1967 to October 1968, March 1st is somewhere in the middle, it is
right around March 28th, 1968. Johndro’s rule, I am looking before and after birth and I will show you
the one I settled on:

Eclipse at 8 Aries 19

March 28th, 1968 at 8° 19‘ Aries.

 Eclipse falls in a vital degree area – Synastry between water eclipse guy and solar eclipse

8° Aries eclipse is the outer wheel and note the planets, it’s his Saturn, Mars and his Moon that are all
eclipsed. Now that eclipse was close in time (March 1st, 1968 and March 28th, 1968) and in close
contact to his natal chart. And again, you come up with a water eclipse:

I specifically chose this because I want to show you how to handle these things. Here I run the
extension lines North, South, East, West and he takes one look and says [in regard to line going through
Winnipeg] “This is about where I live” so this is an extension line from the eclipse shadow [bottom,
shortest line, right end], lives in Canada from Pakistan but has settled here. This extension line [in

regard to bottom, shortest line, left end] going past the west coast of America, most of his family live
in California. And then see the East-West line, he plans to retire in Auckland, New Zealand.

Bill Clinton and synastry with Solar eclipse

Bill Clinton is one of my favourites, I have already mentioned him. He is born August 19 th, 1946 there
was an eclipse June 29th, 1946, it preceded his birth by about a month and a half, that eclipse is on his
Midheaven. That it is the Sun-Moon midpoint, there is a flock of midpoints up at that degree so the
fact that the eclipse is there energises the Midheaven, in other words this young man is very career
orientated and is very concerned about what people think of him. Unfortunately, this of course
energises his natal Mars, Neptune and Venus rising and when I first wrote about this in Dell Horoscope
in the ‘90s I said ‘female problems or scandals will plague his reputation with that square to his
Midheaven and this eclipse energises it’. This eclipse path connected the US to Europe and a few
people remember he was a Rhodes Scholar, so he went over to England and visited a great deal of
Europe.

The reason I put this in here, is to highlight eclipse repetitions. What happened when that eclipse was
repeated?

• In June 1954, there is another eclipse at that degree- his family moved to Hot Springs. In 1954
his family first began to notice his leadership abilities. In the following year they bought a
television, and young Bill developed his interest in his politics.
• In June 1973 - he graduated Yale and returned to Arkansas, setting his political sites on the
1974 Democratic nomination for Congress. He did not win but made such a good showing that
he came into the spotlight for the first time.
• In June 1992 – this eclipse gave him the boost that he needed going into the Democratic
convention. The Gennifer Flowers scandal was hurting his prospects but as this eclipse gained
energy in the 90 days prior to June 30th eclipse that matter was completely forgotten. He went
into the Democratic convention and this eclipse greatly energised his career.

There is an economist I met in Vienna, he is American and I have just visited his home in the north of
Boston and he told me a story, Professor Woody Brock, two degrees from Princeton, two degrees from

Harvard and he said, “I went to the Democratic party and I said you need somebody tall and good-
looking, there is this guy Bill Clinton…” He introduced Bill Clinton to the senior leadership of the
Democratic party early on and told me the whole inside story about how people get into positions
such as this guy did.

The Hindenburg Path

Paul von Hindenburg was born October 2nd, 1847 only eight days prior to the October 10th eclipse. On
October 10, 1847, the Heppenheim conference took place. At that time there were many efforts to
unite all the individual principalities in, what is now Germany, into one state. The conference on
October 10th occurred on the day of an eclipse, so of course, the people at that conference had the
power, they had the influence to make it happen, the other conferences that did not occur on the day
of an eclipse, did not have that solar energy to make it happen. That eclipse took place on October
10th and that was the key date to make a German state and 18 liberal members from a variety of
German states met to discuss common motions for a German nation state. Hindenburg became part
of this idea because he was born on October 2nd only eight days before the eclipse. This eclipse was
re-eclipsed on October 10th, 1912 at the outbreak of the Balkan war. This eclipse marks the birth of
the movement towards a Democratic Republic for the German people and it is notable that with
Hindenburg’s loss of the war in 1918, Germany became a republic. But he was born before an eclipse,
so an unexpected outcome of his life effort was that he handed power over to Hitler. The shadow of
the eclipse cut across northern France, the furthest point of the German advance in World War I and
the path of the Hindenburg line.

This demonstrates four principles:

• Matters began after the eclipse are powerful
• Matters begun before the eclipse work out unexpectedly
• The area shadowed is important
• Births near the eclipse tie the person into the issue.

So, we discussed Hindenburg’s line, and this is Hindenburg’s eclipse path. This example I like, because
it takes Mundane Astrology, personal astrology and the eclipse path and it marries them all together.
For example, if you wish to practice Mundane astrology, an easy way is to go to the Internet and look
up ‘people born today’ on the day of an eclipse and you automatically know the eclipse chart is their
Solar Return so you can say a movie actress is going to have an extraordinary year or a politician or a
sports athlete. If their birthday is the day of a solar eclipse it is going to be an important year and you
can pull up the chart and you can point people’s attention to it. I found a Lunar eclipse, having had
one on my birthday several years ago, has the same affect but it is not as powerful, it is not a year that
I will remember, I will remember it but with some thought, it is not all that important but what it does
do, is it tends to put you in the spotlight whether you like it or not, as the Sun is opposite the Moon.
When I had a Lunar eclipse on my birthday, the peculiar thing was I had a bad flight, I had a lot of
inconveniences. I remember I turned on the news and there was the head of a bank, he came to New
York and he was charged with trying to molest one of the female hotel employees and he got in all
sorts of trouble. I looked up his chart and he was born on the same day, in the same year I was. So, he
was put into the spotlight, but it was not a major issue, it was in the headlines and then it was out of
the headlines.

We have just had an eclipse at 0° Cancer. One of the great contributions of the Hamburg School is The
Uranian System of Astrology, is the points which I call the power points of the zodiac, there are several
relatively fixed points. For example, if I say William Shatner everyone thinks of Captain Kirk, his Sun is
at 0° Aries. 0° Aries, 0° Cancer, 0° Libra, 0° Capricorn, are these points. If you have planets here, plus
or minus a couple of degrees, Richard Nixon, the former president, his Mercury was at 0° 00’ Capricorn
00’, so we certainly heard a great deal from him, but it is difficult to keep secrets when you have
Mercury at one of these points. We all found out about the Watergate tapes. So 0° Cardinal and 15°
Fixed, if an eclipse falls at that degree, the last eclipse we had a 0° Cancer was the one in 2001 that
preceded 9/11, and one of the things that I have learnt if it occurs does not mean we have a 9/11
every year or so it means the effect that eclipse is so strong, that even today we still have a residue of
the attack. When I was writing for Dell Horoscope about 15 months ago I did a forecast for this year
and I pointed out this eclipse was 0° Cancer and I said something is going to occur, that is global, that
is going to affect us for the next 20 years and now we have the Covid-19 virus. I do not think all these
facemasks and practices of washing of the hands will go away soon. Not only that, this 0° Cancer
eclipse is exactly opposite the Sun-Jupiter-Saturn conjunction chart, which ties the two together. If
you look at the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction chart, you see the Uranian planets, Apollon-Vulkanus
equals Neptune, straight out of the book definition, is epidemics. In other words, this eclipse is
energising that chart which has not even started up yet. With the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction we are
not going to wake up and find the world has changed overnight, it starts about a year in advance or
so.

To wrap up, a quick and easy way to get into this, is to look at people’s birthdays on an eclipse but also
look at the path of an eclipse. In 1979 there was an eclipse along the China-Vietnamese border and
China invaded Vietnam. There was an eclipse down in an obscure area just off the coast of Argentina
and the Falklands War occurred. Just looking at the path or by looking at people born on the day of an
eclipse you can learn an awful lot and I always like to go through the eclipse sequences, nations and
people’s lives.

In conclusion, I have focused on determining the appropriate eclipse for your chart which gets you
into synastry and I have tried to show how it links here into Politics and Mundane work.
