Hardware Installation and Maintenance Guide
(V100 and V200) 4 Preparing for Installation
CAUTION
Always take precautions against ESD whenever you handle a switch. For example,
wear ESD gloves or an ESD wrist strap. To avoid electric shock or burn, remove
conductive objects like jewelry and watch.
WARNING
Connect the ground cable first after installing the switch in a cabinet or rack. Do
not remove the ground cable unless all the other cables and modules have been
removed from the chassis.
Environmental Safety
DANGER
NOTICE
Keep the equipment away from sources of water to prevent damages to circuits.
NOTICE
The installation site must be well ventilated to prevent the switches from
overheating.
Electrical Safety
DANGER
DANGER
Never install or remove the equipment or power cables while the power is on. The
electric arc or spark generated between a power cable and conductor may cause
fire or eye damage.
DANGER
To protect personal and equipment safety, ground the equipment before powering
it on.
Laser Safety
CAUTION
Never look directly into an optical module or the ends of optical fibers. Optical
modules and connected fibers emit laser radiation that can cause eye damage.
CAUTION
Cover fiber connectors with dust caps when they are not connected.
Mechanical Safety
CAUTION
Use safe lifting practices when moving heavy object. Never attempt to lift objects
that are too heavy for one person to handle. Instead, seek help or use appropriate
tools.
CAUTION
Before installing the chassis into or removing it from a cabinet, ensure there are
no objects that could fall from the cabinet and cause injury.
NOTICE
Do not drill unapproved holes into a cabinet, as doing so may impair its
electromagnetic shielding and damage cables inside. In addition, drilling holes
produces metal shavings that may enter the cabinet and cause short circuits on
printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Dust proofing Dustproof measures must be taken in the site. Dust will
cause static charges on the chassis and affect connections
of metal connectors and joints. This shortens service life of
the switches and may cause failures of the switches.
Item Requirement
Temperature and The installation site must be free from leaking or dripping
humidity water, heavy dew, and humidity. The temperature and
humidity in the site must be within acceptable ranges. For
the operating temperature and relative humidity range
required by the CloudEngine 9800, 8800, 7800, 6800, and
5800 series switches, see Table 1-1. If the relative humidity
exceeds 70%, using dehumidifiers or dehumidifying air
conditioners is recommended.
Heat dissipation The CloudEngine 9800, 8800, 7800, 6800, and 5800 series
switches use front-to-back or back-to-front airflow design.
The cabinet must meet the requirement of the airflow.
Item Requirement
Distance between When the CloudEngine 9800, 8800, 7800, 6800, and 5800
front and rear series switches need to be installed in the same cabinet
mounting rails with a CloudEngine 12800 switch, keep the distance
between the front and rear mounting rails in the range of
700 mm to 800 mm.
Cabling space On a switch, the side with power modules and fan
modules is the power supply side, and the side with service
ports is the port side. To leave sufficient cabling space,
ensure that the vertical distances from the port side and
power supply side to the interior side of the cabinet doors
are at least 130 mm and 70 mm, respectively. If high-
speed cables are fully configured on all ports of the
CE9860-4C-EI switch, the vertical distance from the port
side to the interior side of the cabinet door is at least 150
mm.
Figure 4-1 shows the points from which to take measurements for the cabinet
width (a), the cabinet depth (b), and the distance between front and rear
mounting rails (c).
