Topic: reduction of light pollution

Country: Sri Lanka
Delegate: Yacoub ismail

Honorable chair and respected delegates,

Sri Lanka is a small island nation in the Indian Ocean The country's population is
just under twenty million, and the country is densely populated.

The government of Sri Lanka has been working to reduce light pollution through
several programs like when the government of Sri Lanka launched a program to
encourage more efficient lighting practices among homeowners, business owners,
and public institutions. This includes things like encouraging that the lights be
switched off in all areas where they are not needed currently.

2) Sri Lanka also set up guidelines for new buildings and remodels to ensure that
they meet or exceed LED standards for energy efficiency. These guidelines are
currently being put in place so that they are more stringent than earlier ones
however, they are still less stringent than those set by the US Green Building
Council (USGBC).

Although Sri Lanka has taken many steps to help reduce light pollution, many
areas still have skyglow. To add to the fact that Cities, towns, and other municipal
areas are switching to more efficient lighting to reduce light pollution.
