Webinars on
Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Energy

Have you heard that Elsevier’s e-Prime journal has launched a new webinar series? Each talk will be associated with a recent e-Prime journal
paper (or in the field of applied electronics, electrical engineering, and energy) by an eminent scholar selected by the editorial board as being
particularly innovative and/or having had a significant recent impact.

Monday 16th January 2023

Time 14:00-15:00 (GMT); 09:00-10:00 (Indiana time); 07:00-08:00 (Denver time); 23:00-24:00 (Japan & Korea time)

Our webinar speaker Yuying Yan will present on the novel or smart methods of heat transfer enhancements, such as phase change,
microchannels, nanofluids, and nature-inspired technologies applied to thermal management, and report recent advances in research.

Thermal management for efficient power electronics, electrical

energy systems and sustainable development
Professor Yuying Yan
University of Nottingham, Nottingham, UK
Organisers: Caroline Champney; Karunesh Kant
On behalf of Elsevier's e-Prime Journal

Abstract:
Nowadays, power electronics, telecommunications and the variety of electrical energy systems have become an essential
part of a harmonious and sustainable society. The effectiveness, durability, and performance sustainability of power
electronics products or electrical systems have become ever important and challenging. In the meantime, the technology of
cooling and thermal management is also facing constantly updated critical challenges with the continuous miniaturization and
rapid increase of power or heat flux of power electronics and electronic devices.

Biography
Yuying Yan (BSc 1982 from Jilin University in Internal combustion engine, MSc 1986 in Thermal Science Engineering at
Shanghai Institute of Mechanical Engineering) obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at City, University of London in
1996. After taking research & academic positions at University of Surrey and Nottingham Trent University, respectively, he joined
University of Nottingham in 2004, and was promoted to full Professor in 2011 as Chair of Thermal Fluids Engineering. His
research covers a wide range of areas of thermofluids including heat transfer enhancement, applied thermodynamics, phase
change, nanofluids and nature-inspired solutions for energy efficiency and thermal management. He is a member/director of
the UK national heat transfer committee, member of the UK EPSRC peer review college, and fellow of the International Society
of Bionic Engineering (ICBE). He was head of fluids & thermal engineering, faculty director of global engagement at UoN,
deputy general secretary of ICBE, and panel member of the European Research Council’s advanced research grant. He has
chaired or co-chaired over 10 international conferences/events. He received the Design & Nature Award & US Navy Young
Scientist Awards in 2004, Royal Academy of Engineering Research Exchanges with China and India Award 2011, Yangzi Rive
Guest Chair Professor Award 2014, and UNNC Li Dak Sum Chair Professor Award 2017. He has supervised more than 40 PhD
students so far, authored or co-authored over 450 papers including about 300 journal papers. He serves as Senior Editor for
e-Prime: Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Energy, Associate Editor for Elsevier Journal Case Studies in Thermal
Engineering, and also holds editorial board membership at International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, Scientific Report,
Journal of Bionic Engineering, Thermal Science & Engineering Progress, Energy Storage & Saving, and Automotive Innovation.
