FESTIVE SEASON TO SEE TRAFFIC CHANGES IN MAJOR TOWNS


Brown’s Town, Ocho Rios and St. Ann’s Bay to be affected.

(St. Ann’s Bay Jamaica) (December 13, 2022) As is customary, the St. Ann Municipal
Corporation in its usual effort to accommodate smooth traffic flow in major
towns in the parish, will implement traffic changes for the festive season, come
Monday December 19, 2022. The festive period brings with it an influx of both
vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The Corporation in partnership with the
Jamaica Constabulary Force will implement special measures to ensure
smoother traffic flow and the safety of pedestrians. The re-routing of traffic
within the major towns are as follows:

BROWN’S TOWN

TRAFFIC ARRANGEMENTS

The following arrangements will be effective from Monday, December 19,


2022 until Saturday, January 2, 2023 or otherwise as indicated by the Police:

1) There will be a detour for vehicles entering the town from the North
Coast, at the “Keep Left” sign at Cool Oasis Gas Station, in an
easterly direction along Huntley Avenue.

2) Vehicles will then turn unto Liberty Drive and continue through
Orange Hill to Top Road.

3) Commuters will also be given the option of turning down to St.


Hilda’s Drive, where they can park on the sides of the street or go
directly to the Municipal Car Park. Public Passenger Vehicles (PPV)
will also be able to access the Transportation Centre from St. Hilda’s
Drive.

4) Commuters who choose to continue on to Top Road will be able to


turn left if they are going to Alexandria or turn right if they are going
to Brown’s Town, Standfast or Trelawny.

5) Light vehicles destined for Standfast and Trelawny will make a left
turn at South Avenue to Musgrave Square while, heavy duty and
other traffic bound for the town centre will continue along Main
Street and turn left at the market.

6) Vehicular traffic from Trelawny, Brown’s Town or Alexandria destined


for the North Coast will be able to use the same route in the reverse
direction - travelling around the town instead of through the town.

7) No parking will be allowed on the Main Road between the Cool


Oasis Gas Station and the intersection to Minard Hill.

8) Addison Park to be used as a paid parking area.

9) Vehicular traffic from Trelawny destined for Alexandria will be able


to use Pound Street and those from Alexandria destined for Brown’s
Town will use Court Street.

Other Traffic Activities

(a) Signs will be posted strategically along the detour route to guide
motorists.

(b) Police personnel will be present to assist with the monitoring of traffic,
giving information, as well as ensuring the safety of citizens.

(c) One way traffic flow will be from the shopping mall to the Court
House.

(d) Left Turn Only from Alexandria to the Court House.

VENDING ARRANGEMENTS

a) On Christmas Eve, traffic re-routing will be strictly enforced so that the


town will be able to accommodate the large number of pedestrians
and vendors who attend the Christmas Eve Festival in the town each
year.

b) Vending will be allowed in the town in areas designated for vending


including Market Street on December 19, 2022 to January 2, 2023.

OCHO RIOS

TRAFFIC ARRANGEMENTS

The traffic flow will be assessed by the JCF (Police) and where deemed
necessary, the following traffic changes will be made effective Monday,
December 19, 2022 to Saturday, January 2, 2023:

a) One Way from Main Street along Old Buckfield Road exiting at the
Transportation Centre.

b) No left turn for vehicles exiting the Ocho Rios Market Car Park and Rexo
Plaza unto Main Street.

c) No exit from James Avenue at the Clock Tower.

d) No right turn from Point Plaza/Simmonds Plaza onto Main Street.

e) No entry from Bent’s Battery onto Main Street.

f) No Parking in front of Juicy Patties & Kamal’s.

g) Bus Parking Only Signs from Craft Market across from Burger King up to
Gem Palace.

h) Newlin Street to accommodate Two (2) way traffic to alleviate traffic


build up on Dacosta Drive.

i) Enter into Eight Rivers Plaza from the Stoplight and exit on bypass at
Buckfield.

VENDING ARRANGEMENTS

(a) Market Street will be closed to vehicular traffic to facilitate vending


during the period, December 19, 2022 – January 2, 2023.

ST. ANN’S BAY

TRAFFIC ARRANGEMENTS

1) From Marcus Garvey Way (i.e. at intersection of Main Street) - One Way
in a Southern direction.

2) Park Avenue will be operated as a One-Way going in a left then right


direction from Bravo Street to Windsor Road during the period
December 19, 2022 – January 2, 2023.

3) Left Turn Only & No Entry Signs, facing in a southerly direction will be
erected at corner of Bravo Hill and King Street

4) Main Street (from the intersection of Church Street to Bravo Street) and
Marcus Garvey Way to be closed to vehicular traffic on Christmas Eve
only, starting at from 7am - 12 midnight

5) Vehicles entering the town from the Hospital roundabout will divert right
unto Church Street and proceed unto Royes Street /Warren Street
/Davis Street and exit unto Gully Road on Christmas Eve only.

6) Alternate parking to be arranged at the car park on Marcus Garvey


Way.

7) Vending on Market Street from December 19, 2022 – January 2, 2023.

8) Bravo Street to remain one (1) way.

VENDING ARRANGEMENTS

Vendors are being reminded that there are public health requirements
relating to preparation and sale of food. They should therefore consult the
Health Department or clinics in their areas before completing arrangements
for the sale of food to the public.

N.B. All relevant agencies should be notified about the vending period above
i.e. Health Department, NSWMA and the Roads & Works Department
