Foreword
The present instructions are concerned with the situations which, according to the
experience of FLSmidth, are the most likely to occur during manufacture, installa-
tion, operation and maintenance of the equipment. An exhaustive enumeration of
all conceivable situations, which may occur, cannot be provided.
Consequently, if a situation should arise, the occurrence of which is not foreseen in
the instructions, and which the operator is/or feels unable to handle, it is recom-
mended that FLSmidth is contacted without undue delay for advice on appropriate
action.

All references to relevant safety standards are given at the EC declaration of con-
formity if required.
Reference by seller to any international or national standard does not incur an
obligation on seller to provide any recipient, reader or user of the documentation
with samples or copies of the said standard(s).
Hence, any recipient, reader or user of the documentation is expected – at his own
cost – to obtain necessary knowledge of the contents of any of the standards
referred to.

Safety
Potential safety risks, and correct mode of conduct subject to such risks, are con-
tinuously described in the text in relation to specific actions.
See instructions 32031 for general safety rules and the separate equipment-specific
safety instructions for a complete list of all unforeseen risks in connection with the
installation, operation and maintenance of the equipment.

NOTICE
Indicates a property damage situation only.

CAUTION
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor
or moderate personal injury.

WARNING
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in
serious personal injury or death.

DANGER
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in seri-
ous personal injury or death.

Structure of safety warnings

All safety warnings are structured as follows:

SIGNAL WORD PANEL

Hazard type.
Consequences of not avoiding the hazard.
Describe how to avoid the hazard, or redirect the reader to such infor-
mation for example a specific procedure.

Additional safety signs

Additional safety signs may be used in the safety warnings and placed to the left of
the warning box. All safety signs follow the definitions and graphical design accord-
ing to the ISO 7010 standard.

1.0 Introduction

The function of this document is to guide the electrical supervisor with the scaling
of the inclinometer, the layer thickness measurement device of the OK Mill.

2.0 Installation

The position of the inclinometer is shown on figure 1. The device is mounted on the
right side of the swing lever on an adjustable plate. Picture 1 shows the inclinome-
ter.

Kindly read the mechanical installation document no. 70041424 as a reference.

Warning
Operating hydraulic unit, lifting and lowering the rollers while measuring,
add/removing shims and tightening bolts.
The area around the cylinders must sealed off and warning signs to be mounted I

appropriate and visual positions before disassembly.

Mechanically lock the main drive.

2.1 Scaling of the inclinometer

Figure 2 shows the pressure lever assembly connected to the hydraulic cylinder.
The items like roller, shaft boss and swing lever are all grossly simplified

Figure 2

2.1.1 The scaling procedure

1.) Lift the roller (fully extend the hydraulic cylinder).

2.) Measure the distance (X1) from the top cover to thrust collar of the hydraulic
cylinder (use a professional meter-tape - and always measure at the
same position with the same meter).
3.) Read the angle output (A1) of the inclinometer.
4.) Lower down the roller to rest onto the table.
5.) Measure the distance (X2) same way as point no.2.
6.) Read the angle output (A2) of the inclinometer.

The conversion factor (µ) can then be calculated from these four values, using the
formula below. This factor can then used in the mill control system.

When the four values are obtained, the conversion number can be calculated.

3.0 Program example

The figure below is an illustration example.
"Top Pos. calibration" and "Min. pos. calibration" are necessary in order set in
system correctly. As the segments get worn, a new min. pos calibration needs to be
done.
