What is Construction and Management

• It is the overall planning, coordination, and control of a project from beginning to completion.

• It is aimed at meeting a client's requirement in order to produce a functionally and financially viable project.

• It prepares students to effectively deliver and manage the capital facilities and infrastructure that are critical to
worldwide productivity.

• Based upon student’s technical background, it develops managerial and financial expertise through a mix of
fundamental and advanced areas of study.

• It expose students to the activities and issues of planning, financing, procuring, constructing, and managing the
built environment.

• Students apply and discover concepts, methods, and strategies for improving the delivery and management of
constructed facilities and systems.

Construction Industry of Pakistan

• Construction is the second largest sector in Pakistan’s economy after


agriculture.

• Roughly 30-35% of employment is directly or indirectly affiliated with the


construction sector.

• The construction sector has grown by 17.2 percent in 2006-07 as against


5.7 percent of the previous year (Economic Survey of Pakistan).

• The sector saw growth by 11.3 percent in the FY 2013-14 against the set
target of 5.7 percent. The share of industry in GDP stood at 2.4 percent in
the year (SBP).

• Pakistan launched some 200 new projects in 2015 as compared to around 140-142 projects initiated in 2014.

• Construction of two mega projects of Dams Bhasha Dam & Munda Dam has been announced and will complete
in coming years.

• Other projects like CPEC, KLM, KKH, are in procurement/progress (Vision, 2025).
