SIGN RULES
Addition
To add 2 or more numbers having like sign, simply
add the numbers and copy the common sign.
Ex. 1. ( 5 ) + ( 11 ) + ( 8 ) + ( 10 ) = 34
2. ( - 12 ) + ( - 15 ) + ( - 9 ) + ( - 4 ) = - 40
Ex. 1. ( 7 ) + ( - 13 ) + ( - 17 ) + ( 14 ) = - 9
2. ( - 10 ) + ( - 8 ) + ( 12 ) + ( - 9 ) = - 15
Subtraction
To subtract sign numbers, change the sign of the
subtrahend and then proceed to addition.
Ex. 1. ( - 15 ) – ( - 21 ) = 6
2. ( 11 ) – ( - 7 ) – ( 14 ) – ( 5 ) = - 1
Ex. 1. ( 3 ) ( 11 ) = 33
2. ( - 108 ) / ( - 9 ) = 12
3. ( - 2 ) ( - 4 ) = 8
4. ( 125 ) / ( 25 ) = 5
Ex. 1. ( - 7 ) ( 9 ) = - 63
2. ( 12 ) ( - 6 ) = - 72
3. ( - 45 ) / ( 9 ) = - 5
4. ( 64 ) / ( - 16 ) = - 4
