WHAT IS CONFIGURATION

 pertains to the arrangement of the hardware and software of IT system. Management of the
components, settings, and more ensures all IT systems can function smoothly and gives you
greater control over the devices on your network.

Key Elements of Configuration

 Hardware
 Software
 Firmware
 Documentation

Examples of Configuration
Routers and Networks

Computer Configuration

Personal Smartphones and Tablets

Printers, Scanners, and Fax Machines

Backups and Data Storage

What Is a Distribution?
 Distribution (distro) is a process of delivering software from a developer to the end user.
Software distribution ranges from OS server distribution to interpreter distribution.
 Software is distributed in bundles containing required files, instructions, configuration settings,
and management settings used to deploy a system application.

A Bundle
 assigned to a system or users.
 When a bundle is assigned to a system, it is accessible to all users that log into the assigned
system.

There are four types of bundles, as follows:

Directive bundle: Performs multiple system actions.

File bundle: Copies or installs system files.

Imaging bundle: Performs actions prior to an OS boot.

Windows bundle: Created for distributing Microsoft Windows software patch (MSP) packages, Microsoft
Windows Installer (MSI) packages, or other Windows-based applications to Windows systems.
What is DHCP?
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network management protocol used to
automate the process of configuring devices on IP networks, thus allowing them to use network
services such as DNS, NTP, and any communication protocol based on UDP or TCP.

DHCP server
dynamically assigns an IP address and other network configuration parameters to each device
on a network so they can communicate with other IP networks.

INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) ADDRESS

 It is a unique address assigned to each computing device in an IP network.
 Computing devices use IP Addresses to identify and communicate with other devices in the IP
network.

Types Of IP Address
Static IP Address
an IP Address that once assigned to a network element always remains the same.
(Configured manually)

Dynamic IP Address
a temporarily assigned IP Address to a network element. It can be assigned to a different device
if it is not in use.
DHCP or PPPoE assigns dynamic IP addresses.

TYPE OF CASTING
Unicast
Transmitting data from one source host to one destination host.(one-to-one)

Multicast
Transmitting data from one source host to a particular group of hosts interested in receiving the
data (One to Many)

Broadcast
 Transmitting data from one source host to all other hosts residing in the same or another
network. (one to all Transmission)
2 TYPES OF BROADCAST
Limited Broadcast
Transmitting data from one source host to all other hosts residing in the same network

Direct Broadcast
Transmitting data from one source host to all other hosts residing in some other network
