“Using Bermuda Grass, Calamansi, and Chili Pepper to Make an Organic

Pesticide for Mosquito”

Introduction

Background of the Study

Pesticides are chemical agents used since the beginning of human history to
eradicate or to control undesired organisms (“pests”) in agriculture, animal
breeding and public health (according to Claudo Colosio, et al., in 2017). There two
classifications for pesticide; the Inorganic Pesticide and Organic Pesticide. According
to Philip G. Koehler, et al., inorganic pesticide are typically derived from minerals or
chemicals compounds that occur as deposits in nature. Using inorganic pesticides
has many advantages its borate shown excellent result in termite control and copper
and sulfur pesticides have demonstrated excellent control and suppression of
various fungicides that may infect vulnerable plants (according to Keith McCoy). It
has disadvantages also, its substances derived or refined from non – living natural
resources, they do not contain carbon compounds, and many of it are toxic to
humans (according to Sheela Vanugopal in 2016). According to Tom McCoy, et al.,
organic pesticide is generally considered to be a pesticide that derived from naturally
occurring sources such as plants or animals. Using organic pesticides has many
advantages, it is very much friendly to the environment and can be composed only
using natural sources like plants, animals, etc.. It is almost free of cost and there is
no negative impact on human’s health, soil, plants, animals, and environment. It has
disadvantages also, it can contaminate soil, water, turf, and environment (according
to Waizm Aktar, et al., in 2015).

The objective of this study is to prevent any disease caused by pest using
organic pesticide. This kind of pest is mosquito. Mosquito can cause dengue, fever,
malaria, etc. Those diseases being mentioned can affect human’s health or even it
can lead to someone’s death because of the viruses being carried.

The researcher’ study is all about organic pesticide. This organic pesticide
contains Bermuda grass, Calamansi, and Chili pepper. The nutrients that are in the
Bermuda grass to kill pests is 9-16% protein, 45-85% NDF and 20-45% ADF (DM
basis). The nutrients that are in the Calamansi to kill pests

The researcher's observations that the organic pesticide is less cost and
derived from the natural materials such as plants, and so on. It is less harm to
people, more eco - friendly, and there is no negative impact on human health, soil,
animals, and plants. While the inorganic pesticides are more expensive than the
organic pesticides and it can harm humans, plants, and other living things .Mosquito
is a type of pest that sucks human’s blood that can cause many diseases. Using
chemical pesticides or inorganic pesticides had a side effect for human’s health. The
industrialization of the agricultural sector has increased the chemical burden on
natural ecosystems. According to Polyxeni Nicolopoulou - Stamati, et al. in 2016,
pesticides are argrochemicals used in agricultural lands, public health programs, and
urban green areas in order to protect plants and humans from various diseases.
However, due to their known ability to cause a large number of negative health and
environmental effects, their side effects can be an important environmental health
risk factor.
