Intended learning outcomes:
The intended learning outcomes of this lesson, Teacher in the Classroom and in the
Community, are in the following:

1. To be inform about teacher inside the classroom and in the community;


2. To learn the relationship between the school and the community;
3. To have insights about the roles of a professional teacher inside the
classroom and the community; and

4. To present the knowledge and needs of teacher in professional development.

Teacher
A diplomat and the ambassador of fact and sensitivity;
The facilitator of learning; and,
Develops the youths.

CLASSROOM
❖the place where teachers actively create the conditions for learning weaving
together knowledge of the discipline or field of knowledge; ways of working in
that discipline or field; their knowledge of how to make the various concepts,
content and procedures in that discipline or field learnable by students; and their
knowledge of the learner.

COMMUNITY
❖ emerged as a group of people with diverse characteristics who are linked by social
ties, share common perspectives, and engage in joint action in geographical
locations or settings.

TEACHING COMMUNITY
Inside the School: Fellow teacher, students, colleague, and superior.
Outside the School: Students’ Parents, Local Officials and often Members of Society
where the school are located to.

RELATIONSHIP OF SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY


Community is a part of the society and education is the counterpart of both. School is the social
institute where consciously designed learning experiences are provided with the objectives of
achieving social aim at large, over a period of time. School is also defined as a subsystem of the
larger system of the society. It has to functionally coordinate with its immediate environment, the
community in which it is situated.

IMPACT OF PARTNERSHIP:
▪ Upgraded school facilities Improved school leadership and staffing Higher quality
learning programs for students;
▪ New resources and programs to improve teaching and curriculum  Resources for after-
school programs and family supports  Increased social and political capital of
participants.

ROLES OF A PROFESSIONAL TEACHER


• creates an environment that promotes fairness;
• makes the classroom environment conductive to learning;
• establishes and maintains consistent standards learners’ behavior;
• communicates higher learning expectations to each other;

• involves community in sharing accountability for the learners’ achievements.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR
TEACHING COMPETENCY
A documented record of an individual’s career, aspirations and progressions. It may
be referred to as a PDP or CPD, with the latter an abbreviation of continuing professional
development. It outlines what you wish to achieve and what you are going to do to develop
your workplace skills and therefore reach your goals.

There are 9 steps to completing a PDP:


▪ Assess where you are now.
▪ Identify your specific career goals.
▪ Gather information.
▪ Identify what professional skills you already have and which you need to work on.
▪ Choose how you will accomplish your goals.
▪ Develop a timeline for accomplishing your specific targets and goals.
▪ Write it all down.
▪ Evaluate your plan.
▪ Measure your progress.
