ABSTRACT

COVID-19 pandemic changes everything particularly our system of education. From face-to-face
learning to implementation of different learning modality which include distance learning. Since we have
to continue education a midst of pandemic, teachers started to prepare for modular and online distance
learning. Teaching is possible, but, has challenges as well. Hence, this research explored the lived
experiences of elementary teaches of FVR Phase 2 Elementary School, District of Norzagaray West,
Division of Bulacan in the pre-implementation of distance learning in the new normal. The participants
were selected through simple random sampling in which each member of the subset has an equal
probability of being chosen and underwent interview through google forms. The documented interviews
were transcribed, tabulated, and coded. Questions were categorically clustered into six (6): Profile of the
Respondents, Social support, Leisure Activities, Work and Study Habits, Healthy living and Mental
Health then, emerging themes were derived. These are the possible coping mechanism that we may
considered timely, relevant, and effective for every teacher to provide quality instruction, maintain
efficiency and effectiveness in response to the challenges brought by complexity of assessment, difficulty
in instructional delivery and digital divide. As new system of education demands for changes, it requires
everyone as educator to empower ourselves with critical thinking skills, creativity, media and technology
literacy as well as productivity, and social skills. Findings revealed that as education migrates to a New
Normal, teachers make necessary preparations to equip themselves with distance learning. Though they
face challenges which may hamper their work, they still manage to cope with the new normal to continue
their tasks. The higher offices and school authorities should work with teachers at the pre-implementation
of distance learning to address their needs in resources and training to effectively facilitate the delivery of
quality education for students.
