MBE in 1958 and was in the proud possession of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) Chandigarh.
 This vintage aircraft was gifted to PEC by AVM Harjinder Singh in the year 1967 and shares a strong bond with
Indian aviation heritage.
 The “Kanpur-1” will be displayed along with other aircraft at the IAF Heritage Centre.

 In order to combat emergent dangers, multiple participants engaged in real-time
communication and shared a single operating picture.
 An important aspect of the exercise was the use of resources including assets of the Indian Air
Force in an integrated manner with a combined arms approach to warfighting.
 This was affected by using Advanced Light Helicopter (Weapon System Integrated), K9 – Vajra,

 The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently announced a National Suicide
Prevention Strategy.
 It is the first of its kind in the country, with time-bound action plans and multi-sectoral
collaborations to achieve reduction in suicide mortality by 10% by 2030.
 The strategy broadly seeks to establish effective surveillance mechanisms for suicide
within the next three years.
 It aims to establish psychiatric outpatient departments that will provide suicide
prevention services through the District Mental Health Programme in all districts within
the next five years.
 While the strategy is in line with the WHO’s South East-Asia Region Strategy for suicide
prevention, it says it will remain true to India’s cultural and social milieu.
 In India, more than one lakh lives are lost every year to suicide, and it is the top killer in
the 15-29 years category.
 In the past three years, the suicide rate has increased from 10.2 to 11.3 per 1,00,000
population.

 For effective pollution monitoring and response, the Indian Coast Guard will
get two more new generation vessels from Goa Shipyards Ltd (GSL) by
2025.
 The keel laying ceremony for the two pollution control vessels, GSL Yard
1267 and 1268, took place at the Goa Shipyard .
 The vessel, with an overall length of 114.5 meters, breadth of 16.5 meters
and a draft of 4.5 meters, is capable of carrying a of 129 personnel, 14
officers and 115 sailors, onboard.
 The vessel’s maximum speed will be 22 knots with an endurance of 6,000
nautical miles.
 These vessels designed for the first time in India, will also have a significant
indigenous content, which the GSL believed was key considering the
government’s push for Make in India, said the Shipyard.
 The GSL bagged the contract for two PCVs, which will be delivered by
February 2025 and August 2025, through competitive bidding which saw
participation from both, public as well as private shipyards.

 Besides this, the GSL will hand over 8 Fast Patrol Vessels to the Coast Guard, from 2024 onwards. These specially designed FPVs are medium range
weapon fitted surface vessels capable of operation in coastal waters and around island territories to protect offshore assets, said the GSL.
 The vessel is being designed to recover the lightest to the most viscous oil at the rate of 300 tons per hour.
 The vessels are also equipped with fire-fighting and salvage systems.

 QatarEnergy recently announced a 27-year natural gas supply deal with China.
 QatarEnergy will send four million tonnes of liquefied natural gas annually from its new North Field East project to China Petroleum and Chemical
Corporation (Sinopec).

showed that in FY22, construction workers’ average
daily wage in Kerala was more than three times

Madhya Pradesh.
 A daily wage construction worker in Kerala earned
on an average ₹837.3 a day, compared to ₹250 in
Tripura, ₹267 in Madhya Pradesh, ₹296 in Gujarat
and ₹362 in Maharashtra, FY22 data compiled by
the central bank showed.
 In the case of agricultural and non-agircultural
segments too, for which data is available, Kerala
was the top payer followed by Himachal Pradesh,
while Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat remained the
lowest payers.
 However, industrialized states remained front-
runners in attracting investments.

 Gujarat reported the highest gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) of over ₹72,000 crore in FY20, for which data is available.
 Maharashtra came second with over ₹69,900 crore, followed by Tamil Nadu with ₹45,900 crore. Karnataka reported over ₹27,000 crore of GFCF in the
year.
 India had entered a national lockdown towards the end of FY20, but the bulk of its economic impact was visible in FY21 and FY22.
 Nationally, GFCF saw a decline in FY21 but recovered in FY22 to ₹47.8 trillion.

recently unveiled the new
standard - Indian Standard
(IS) 19000:2022 on “Online
Consumer Reviews” and
ratings, which has been
prepared by the Bureau of
Indian Standards (BIS).
 To combat the threat of
fraudulent and deceptive
product and service
reviews, all e-commerce
players, travel and
ticketing portals and online
food delivery platforms will
soon be required to
voluntarily reveal all paid
or sponsored reviews.
 Online reviews have
greater influence on
consumers mainly in three
sectors - tour and travel,
restaurant and eateries,
and consumer durables.
 With the notification of the standard, India will be the first country in the world to have such a norm for Online Consumer Reviews.
 As per the new standard, the BIS has defined reviews as solicited and unsolicited.
 The person responsible for handling the review in any organisation will be called the review administrator.
 The new standard gives an option for the reviewers to withdraw their reviews
 The new standard will be applicable even for independent third-party entities that post such reviews on any online platform.
 There are websites in countries like Turkey and Moldova where there is a business of fake reviews and companies pay money and get reviews.

 Representatives from all major players, including Google and Meta, were part of the committee that developed the final standard, thus high
compliance is to be expected, as fake reviews also harm the industry.
 The BIS will come up with a conformity assessment scheme to certify the websites hosting such reviews. The websites will display such certification for
consumers information.
 It is the National Standards Body of India under Department of Consumer affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government
of India.
 Initially established as a society, the BIS was made a statutory body under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, with its headquarters in New
Delhi.
 It has 25 members drawn from Central or State Governments, industry, scientific and research institutions and consumer organisations.

 The Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS) and HDFC Bank signed a
Memorandum of Understanding.
 According to the agreement, HDFC Bank will provide banking and financial services
to businesses registered with the ‘Karnataka Startup Cell’ as part of HDFC Bank’s
‘SmartUp Program’.
 The agreement was signed at the 25th Bengaluru Tech Summit.
 The ‘SmartUp Program’ is HDFC Bank’s main programme to enhance the country’s start-up ecosystem. The initiative intends to help start-ups achieve
their objectives by utilising the bank’s well-known and cutting-edge smart financial technologies. The programme also aligns with the Indian
government’s ‘Startup India’ strategy.

 New Zealand’s Supreme Court has ruled that the country’s current voting age of 18 was

 The Supreme Court found that the current voting age of 18 was inconsistent with the country’s Bill of
Rights, which gives people a right to be free from age discrimination when they have reached 16.
 Make It 16’ is a youth-led campaign in New Zealand advocating for the vote to be extended to 16
and 17-year-olds.
 New Zealand’s voting age was previously lowered from 21 to 20 in 1969, and then to 18 in 1974.
 New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the government would draft legislation to reduce
the age to 16, which could then be put to a vote in Parliament.

 The government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is signing a memorandum with the Madhya
Pradesh government today to onboard industry and would like to sign similar MoUs with other Indian states.
 This involves industry awareness workshops for micro, small and medium enterprises, startups, industries and farmer
groups, who will join the network as sellers.
 An ONDC masterclass to encourage e-commerce entities operating private and public owned e-commerce portals, is also
part of the MoU.
 Technology providers and startups in the state will have to develop ONDC-compliant buyer and seller applications.

 Russia for the first time became the biggest fertilizer supplier to India in
the first half of the 2022/23 fiscal year by offering discounts over
prevailing global prices, cornering more than a fifth of the market
share, government and industry sources said.

million tonnes in the first six months of the year started on April 1.
 Combined, Russia and Belarus accounted for more than 40% of global
exports of potash last year. Russia accounted for about 22% of global
exports of ammonia, 14% of the world's urea exports and about 14% of
monoammonium phosphate (MAP) - all key kinds of fertilizers.
 India's total fertilizer imports in the first half of 2022/23 fell 2.4% from a year ago to 10.27 million tonnes, although in
value terms imports during the period surged 59% to $7.4 billion.

 The mega write-off exercise has enabled banks to reduce their
non-performing assets (NPAs), or defaulted loans, by Rs
10,09,510 crore ($123.86 billion) in the last five years.
 Due to this write-off, the banking sector reported a decline in
gross NPAs to Rs 7,29,388 crore, or 5.9 percent of the total
advances, as of March 2022.
 Gross NPAs were 11.2 per cent in 2017-18.
 The total defaulted loans (including write-offs but excluding
loans recovered from write-offs in five years) amount to Rs 16.06
lakh crores.
 A non-performing asset (NPA) is a loan or advance for which the principal or interest payment remained overdue for a period of 90 days.
 Loan Write-Off refers to the situation when the lender has moved a particular loan’s pending dues out of the “Assets” column and has reported this
amount as a loss. This happens after the borrower has defaulted on the loan repayment, and there is a low chance of recovery.
