U.S. announces fund to refurbish tanks, surface-to-air missiles in 400 million Dollar
security assistance for Ukraine

The United States has announced that it will fund the refurbishment of T-72 tanks and
HAWK surface-to-air missiles as part of a roughly 400 million Dollar security assistance
package for Ukraine. Air defence and armour capabilities are both high on the list of
assistance desired by Ukraine.

However, the T-72s fall short of the most modern tanks such as German Leopards or US
Abrams. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh told journalists that the tanks are
coming from the Czech Republic's defence industry, and the United States is paying for 45 of
those to be refurbished.

Maritime Partnership Exercise app_20201213

in Bay of Bengal

A Maritime Partnership Exercise involving Royal Australian Navy (RAN) ships HMAS
Adelaide and HMAS Anzac and Indian Navy Ships Jalashwa and Kavaratti along with their
embarked helicopters was held in the Bay of Bengal.

This was part of Australia’s Indo-Pacific Endeavour 2022 (IPE 22). The Australian Defence
Forces were hosted by the Eastern Naval Command. Ships of the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet
as also personnel from the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force participated in various joint
activities.

The harbour phase included a wide range of professional interactions including experience
sharing, joint planning activities and friendly sports exchanges. The successful completion of
the exercise has marked another milestone in the growing India-Australia military
interactions.

Amit Dasgupta was appointed as an Honorary Member in the General Division of the Order
of Australia (AM) for his service to the Australia-India bilateral relationship. Dasgupta is a
tireless promoter of Australia-India relations, challenging the nations’ governments and
people to realise the underlying potential of a stronger bilateral relationship.

Dasgupta continues to advance relations between the two countries as a Distinguished Fellow
of the Australia India Institute, a Senior Fellow at the Society for Policy Studies, and the
Inaugural Country Director of the University of New South Wales since 2016.

International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and
Armed Conflict: 6th November

On November 6th, the UN observes the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of
the Environment in War and Armed Conflict. The day seeks to make people aware of the
consequences that war and conflict have on the environment.

This day was established to protect the environment as a source of security and peace and to
prevent its use in military conflicts. We are all encouraged to speak up and reaffirm our
commitment to protecting our threatened planet, even in the face of armed aggression.

Shyam Saran Negi passes away at 106

The country's first voter 106-year old Master Shyam Saran Negi passed away, after a
prolonged illness. He was a resident of Kalpa in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
Shyam Saran Negi exercised his franchise 34 times in the life of 106 years which made him a
conscious citizen.

The Election Commission has mourned the demise of the first voter of Independent India,
Shyam Saran Negi. The Commission said, he was not just the first voter of Independent
India, but a man with exceptional faith in democracy. He inspired millions to vote, even
before his demise, he voted for the ensuing Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections through
postal ballot on the 2nd of this month, the Commission said.

Tourism Ministry to participate World Travel Market

The Ministry of Tourism will participate in the World Travel Market (WTM) which is being
held in London.

It is one of the largest international travel exhibitions. The theme of this year's exhibition is -
The Future of Travel Starts Now. With the reopening of the country to foreign tourists, after a
gap of almost two years, this year's participation in India is particularly significant.

India is participating in the WTM 2022 to showcase itself as a preferred destination for
tourism. A total of 16 stakeholders, including State governments, other Central Ministries, the
Confederation of Indian Industry as the industry partner, tour operators, and hoteliers are
participating as co-exhibitors in the India Pavilion. The objective is to showcase the diverse
tourism products and services including Medical Value travel, luxury trains, and the gamut of
tourism products to the international business community.

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) conducted India’s First Floating Financial Literacy Camp
with an initiative called ‘Niveshak Didi’ to promote Financial Literacy ‘By the women, for
the women’, in Srinagar, J&K.

It is based on the ideology of women for women, as rural area women feel more comfortable
to share their queries with a female herself. It is launched by IPPB, in collaboration with
Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) under the aegis of Ministry of
Corporate Affairs (MCA).

The session covered topics ranging from banking and financial products, importance of
joining the mainstream financial services offered by regulated entities & protection against
various types of risks involved with investments and measures of fraud prevention.

India's largest wind turbine, taller than Statue of Unity

Adani New Industries Ltd. has constructed a wind turbine in Mundra in Gujarat as part of its
growth plans for renewable energy that is taller than the Statue of Unity and has blades that
are broader than the wingspan of a jumbo jet.

Mundra Windtech Ltd (MWL), an Adani Enterprises Ltd. wholly-owned company, installed
the turbine. This prototype is also Adani New Industries Ltd.’s (ANIL) first addition to its
portfolio and has paved the way for the installation of even larger wind turbine generators,
according to the company.

The wind turbine, which is 200 metres tall and can power over 4,000 households with 5.2
MW of electricity, can generate. The Statue of Unity, which stands at 182 metres, is the
tallest statue in the world, it was added. It is the longest in the nation, with blades that are
longer than a jumbo jet’s wingspan, at 78 metres.

Byju's ropes in Messi as global app_20201213

Edtech giant Byju’s has roped in football star Lionel Messi as the first global brand
ambassador of its social impact arm, Education For All. Messi, who plays for Paris Saint-
Germain and captains the Argentinian football team, has signed an agreement with Byju’s to
promote the cause of equitable education.

This association with one of the biggest athletic stars in the world is in sync with the
expanding global footprint of Byju’s.

Earlier this year, Byju’s became the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

RBI's gold reserves rise further, up nearly 25 tonnes so far this year

The Reserve Bank of India’s gold reserves, which have increased by over 100 tonnes in the
last two years, continued their upward trajectory in the current financial year, with the central
bank adding 24.93 metric tonnes so far in the year.

As at end-September 2022, the Reserve Bank held 785.35 metric tonnes of gold - including
gold deposits of 41.57 metric tonnes.

447.30 metric tonnes of gold is held overseas in safe custody with the Bank of England and
the Bank of International Settlements (BIS), while 296.48 metric tonnes of gold is held
domestically.

The Centre has revamped and broadened the India Infrastructure Project Development Fund
Scheme with an aim to provide financial assistance in meeting the cost of transaction advisors
and consultants engaged in the development of Public-Private Partnership projects, as per a
statement and a gazette notification by the Finance Ministry, the corpus of this fund is Rs 150
crore for three years.

As a Central Sector Scheme, the India Infrastructure Project Development Fund Scheme
(IIPDF Scheme) will aid development of quality PPP projects by providing necessary funding
support to the project sponsoring authorities, both in the central and state Governments, for
creating a shelf of bankable viable PPP projects for achieving the vision of modern
infrastructure for the country.

Netherlands defeats South Africa last Super-12 T20 World Cup match

The Netherlands staged a massive upset in the ongoing T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval,
after defeating South Africa in their last Super-12 encounter, ensuring India a place in the
semi-finals.

The South African batters choked and failed to chase a moderate score of 159 runs as the
Dutch bowlers restricted them to 145 for 8 in their 20 overs. Brandon Glover starred with the
ball for the Netherlands as the pacer claimed three wickets in his two overs.

India secured a place in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup after South Africa was
defeated by the Dutch team.

Indian pugilists Minakshi and Preeti stormed into semi-finals of the Asian Elite Boxing
Championship in Amman, Jordan.

Minakshi defeated Philippines’ Irish Magno 4-1 in the women's 52kg quarterfinals bout .
Preeti outclassed Turdibekova Sitora of Uzbekistan., 5-0 in 57 kg category.

Minakshi will face Mongolia’s Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg while Preeti will take on Japan’s Irie
Sena in the semi finals on November 9.

However, another Indian woman boxer Sakshi crashed out of contention after losing her
quarterfinal bout. She lost 0-5 to Chinese Taipei’ ‘s Hsiao-Wen Huang in the 54kg weight
category.

T20 World Cup: England defeat Lanka by 4 wickets, enter semifinals

ICC T20 Cricket World Cup, England defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in the final league
match of Group 1 at Sydney. With this win, England reached the semi-finals while defending
champions and hosts Australia have been knocked out.

Earlier, opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Sri Lankan team posted 141 for 8 in the
stipulated 20 overs. Chasing a target of 142 runs, England reached the target in 19.4 overs
losing 4 wickets. For England Alex Hales top scored with 47 runs.

New Zealand became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup as
they defeated Ireland by 35 runs at the Adelaide Oval.
