US President Joe Biden urged all nations to ramp up their own efforts to avert catastrophic
global warming. Speaking at the COP27 conference in Egypt, Biden said the United States
will meet its goal of cutting emissions 50-52 percent below 2005 levels by 2030.
He endorsed the passage of a 369 billion Dollar spending package to green the US economy
as an achievement that would shift the paradigm for his country and the entire world. US
President also announced plans to step up efforts to cut methane emissions by plugging fossil
fuel leaks and requiring companies to act on leaks reported by credible third parties.

US Treasury removes India from its Currency Monitoring List

The United States Department of Treasury has removed India from its Currency Monitoring
List. The move came hours after Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen addressed US-India
Businesses and investment opportunities event in New Delhi. India had been on the list for
the last two years.
Along with India, the United States also removed Italy, Mexico, Thailand and Vietnam from
its Currency Monitoring List of major trading partners that merit close attention to their
currency practices and macroeconomic policies.

World Pneumonia Day:12th November

World Pneumonia Day is a global event observed every year on 12 November to spread
awareness and educate people to combat Pneumonia disease, which is a world’s biggest
infectious killer of adults and children, responsible for the majority of death of children
below five around the world.
This year 2022, World Pneumonia Day theme is based on the Worldwide Pneumonia
Awareness Campaign – “Pneumolight 2022”, with a theme and slogan “Pneumonia Affects
Everyone”, with an aim to amplify the effect of awareness campaigns by illuminating
monuments worldwide.

Public Service Broadcasting Day:12th November

Public Service Broadcasting Day is being celebrated on 12th November every year to
commemorate the only visit of Mahatma Gandhi to All India Radio in Delhi in 1947. On 12
November 1947, Mahatma Gandhi addressed the displaced people (a refugee from Pakistan),
who had temporarily settled at Kurukshetra in Haryana after partition. Gandhiji had
reportedly said that he saw the medium of radio as Shakti, the miraculous power of God.
The day was declared as Public Service Broadcasting Day or (Jan Prasaran Diwas) in 2001,
after it was conceptualised by Suhas Borker, Convenor, Jan Prasar.

Jharkhand assembly passesfor

raise reservations for categories to 77%

A bill was passed in the Jharkhand assembly to raise the total reservation offered to different
categories to 77 per cent.
In a special session, the assembly passed an amendment to the Jharkhand Reservation of
Vacancies in Posts and Services Act, 2001, raising the reservations for STs, SCs, EBCs,
OBCs and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in government jobs from the present 60 per
cent.
The bill proposes that the state will urge the Centre for changes in the Ninth Schedule of
Constitution.
In the proposed reservation, local people of the SC community will get a quota of 12 per cent,
STs will get 28 per cent, Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs) 15 per cent, OBCs 12 per cent,
and EWS barring those from the other reserved categories 10 per cent.
At present, the STs get a 26 per cent reservation in Jharkhand, while SCs get 10 per cent
quota.

SC orders release of 6 convicts app_20201213
Gandhi assassination case

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the premature release of six convicts, including Nalini
Sriharan and R P Ravichandran, serving life sentence in the assassination case of former
Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
A bench of Justices B R Gavai and B V Nagarathna said the judgement of the top court in the
case of A G Perarivalan, one of the convicts in the case, is equally applicable in their matter.
Invoking its extraordinary power under Article 142 of the Constitution, the top court had on
May 18 ordered the release of Perarivalan, who had served over 30 years in jail.

Year 2022 declared as ASEAN-India Friendship year

The year 2022 has been declared as the ASEAN-India Friendship year, as ASEAN and India
commemorate 30 years of partnership.
A series of events has been planned to celebrate the occasion throughout the year. As a part
of this programme, Indian media delegation is on a visit to Singapore and Cambodia under
the ASEAN-INDIA Media exchange programme from 8th November to 13th November.

Cochin Shipyard to build India's app_20201213
hydrogen fuel cell catamaran vessel in Varanasi

Cochin Shipyard has signed an MoU with Inland Waterways Authority of India to build the
country's first hydrogen fuel cell catamaran vessel for Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The
Shipyard also signed another MoU for the construction of six electric catamaran vessels for
Uttar Pradesh and two such vessels for Guwahati.
The air-conditioned electric hybrid vessels, designed for short-distance commute in riverine
waters, will have seating capacity for 50 passengers. The vessels will provide onboard
accommodation for the crew, besides toilet and washroom facilities for the passengers.

NFRA issues inspection guidelines to improve quality control at audit firms

The National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) published guidelines on audit quality
inspection, in a bid to further improve the standards of auditors.
The inspection guidelines are based on recommendations of the International Forum for
Independent Audit Regulators (IFIAR), which comprise audit regulators of 54 countries.
NFRA will pick the audit firms for such inspections based on its own risk identification
parameters along with other factors such as the size of the firm and nature of audits that they
conduct.
The NFRA guidelines focus on three aspects: adequacy of governance framework,
ascertaining the effectiveness of an audit firm's internal controls and evaluating the audit risks
along with mitigating measures.

Ola shuts in-car infotainment app_20201213
service launched in 2016 as global first

Mobility firm Ola will shut its in-cab infotainment service from November 15, said the
SoftBank-backed company.
The Bengaluru-based firm said its parent ANI Technologies has taken measures to remove
Ola Play, the tablet-based service, from the market.
The development comes at a time when Ola’s rival Uber has launched its global advertising
unit with the aim of building a $1 billion business by 2024, according to multiple reports. It
would do this by displaying promotions within its apps, on top of cars and on the back of
seats. Here tablets fixed to the back of car seats are used to show advertising and trip
information, and users have control over any ads with sound. Uber is reportedly piloting in-
car tablets for showing ads and other value-added services to its riders in Mumbai and Delhi.

India wearables mkt grows 56.4% YoY; 37.2 mn units shipped in Q3FY22: IDC

India’s wearable market grew at a record 56.4 per cent YoY (year on year), shipping 37.2
million units in the third quarter of 2022 (July-September), according to a recent report.
Data from the International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Indian Monthly Wearable Device
Tracker shows that the wearables market was led by BoAt, with 32.1 per cent market share,
followed by Noise (13.8 per cent) and Fire-Boltt (8.9 per cent).
OnePlus was in fourth place with 8.2 per cent market share while Realme took the fifth spot.

Greg Barclay re-elected as chairman of ICC

Greg Barclay has been re-elected unopposed as the chairman of the International Cricket
Council (ICC). At an ICC Board meeting in Melbourne, Barclay's opponent Dr. Tavengwa
Mukuhlani, the chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket withdrew from the contest. Barclay, a former
head of New Zealand Cricket will now hold his second term for two more years.

Lovlina, Parveen, Saweety and Alfiya strike Gold at Asian Elite Boxing Championships

Indian boxers Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda, Saweety and Alfiya Pathan claimed Gold
medals at the Asian Championships in Amman, Jordan.
Parveen secured 5-0 victory over Japan’s Kito Mai. The world championships bronze
medallist put up a dominant show to beat fourth seeded Mai via unanimous decision. Lovlina
defeated Ruzmetova Sokhiba of Uzbekistan 5-0 by unanimous decision in the final. The title
will be a big morale booster for the 25-year-old Lovlina who has struggled to find form since
her bronze-medal winning exploits at the Tokyo Olympics. Saweety defeated Gulsaya
Yerzhan of Kazakhstan 5-0 by unanimous decision, while Alfiya defeated Islam Husaili of
Jordan due to opponent disqualification to clinch gold.
