30 DUST & SCRATCH OVERLAYS / TEXTURES

Add that vintage feel to your images using our optically captured dust & scratch overlay textures. We
have also included one Photoshop action to make it easy for you. If you are a wedding, portrait or family
photographers and your aim is to create realistic retro photographs, our toolkit is the right choice for you.

Unzip the “30 Dust and Scratch Overlay Textures.zip” file. To import the action file to Photoshop, go
to “Action” folder and open “Control.atn” file. Or you can go to the Action Palette in Photoshop, click
on a little arrow in the top right corner and then click on Load Actions… which will open the browser. Find
the action on your computer and click ok. You can also drag the action file directly into your Photoshop
window.

H OW T O US E IT

Open the photo you want to edit in Photoshop. Go to “Textures” folder and choose the texture you want
to use. Drag this file into Photoshop. The other way is to go to “File > Place…”, find the file you want to
use on your computer using browser window and click ok. Then press “Enter” or click on a little tick
symbol on the top.

Go to your Action Palette and play “Control” action under “30 Dust & Scratch Overlays / Textures”.

If you are not satisfied with the position of the texture, or your photograph is smaller or larger then the
texture, go to “Control” layer group, click on “Texture” layer and press “CTRL + T” to transform it.
Scale, rotate and position the layer where you want it and press “Enter”. Click the layer mask, choose a
soft brush, select it’s opacity to around 10 - 30, change your colour to black. Then gently paint the parts
of the photo where you don’t want the scratches to show.

If you have a feeling that the scratches on the photo are too bright, then go to “Controls” layer group,
right click on the “Levels” layer, click on “Edit Adjustment...” and slowly move “white Output Levels
pointer” to the left (see below).

Tip: To achieve the desired look, try to change the opacity of some adjustment layers created by the
action.
