Draft Evidence 2: Oral discourse of past challenges, skills, or successes
This is Evidence 2 in which we are supposed to be at recess, talking to each other about some challenges and success that we had. Today we are going to tell you some things that have happened to us. Miri: Hey girls, how have you been? Am I late? Fátima: No, you’re not. We’re about to talk about our past challenges, did any of you have a hard one? Ana: Of course, who doesn’t? Ceci: Let’s start with Andrea, please tell us about your challenge, was it hard to reach? Andrea: In my life, I have faced different challenges, but I think the most difficult challenge I have had was when I took the administration exam at the University. I was nervous although I studied for the exam, but I thought “What if I don’t pass?” because it means that It was important in my life, and then when I saw the result it said, ‘congratulations you entered the University’. I was overjoyed. Fátima: That must have been hard. Ana: Actually, that reminds me to my high school days. Andrea: What about you Ceci, have you had a memorable challenge? Ceci: Of course, one of the challenges that I have achieved has been belonging to a cheerleading team and being a very good gymnast. I always have liked that sport since I was little, but I never had the opportunity to practice it. Ana: Then, what happened? Ceci: Last year, I participated in my first and second competition representing my school against other colleges and it has been one of the best experiences I have lived. Fátima: Personally, I think you’re available to do whatever you want if you purpose. Ana: The best moment I had was when I was in high school because I won a very important tennis match with my team, even my dad wanted me to join his group. I felt very excited because I had found a sport that I like, it was very difficult because my physical condition is not good but I improved over the years. I only competed in 3 games for my school and 5 in my dad’s team. He told me to dedicate myself to that, while I had found other hobbies and other better skills like swimming or climbing. Andrea: Really? Ana: Yes, but I think I made a good decision to look for more hobbies. Ceci: Miri had told me that she has an ability for basketball, is it true? Miri: Sure, let me tell you about it. I think the best time when I really felt successful was in the school, I remember that I liked to play basketball but I didn’t feel able to do that sport because I’m short and thin. Fátima: I’m wondering, why do they ask for many requirements to practice a sport? Miri: Me too, by the time I decided to join to the basketball team and we went to a basketball tournament. In the last minute we had the same points and only one could make the difference so I remembered that I ran quickly and I was able to score, actually I’m very proud of myself. Ana: That must have been great, did you feel the adrenaline? Miri: Of course, I had so much fun. Andrea: Fátima, I think we are surrounded by athletes. Fátima: I guess so, but now it’s my turn. Mine is also from school but in an academic way, when I was at Junior High I had a challenge because I participated in an Spelling Bee Contest. Ceci: Uhm, interesting. Fátima: I had studied so hard to get the first place and I considered it as a challenge because my mom is an English teacher so she had helped me to review the word list previously. I wanted to make her feel proud of me and when the principal appeared to announce the fist place, my mom was very excited and proud of my goals because I could get the first place. Andrea: No way! That’s incredible! Have you been shocked? Fátima: Of course, I couldn’t believe that I won, but as soon as I arrived home I realized it. Miri: I had so much fun talking to you girls, I have never imagined that you were that good. Ana: She’s telling the truth, we have been able to do whatever we wanted to do. Ceci: I couldn’t remember, how did we get to this topic? Fátima: Hey, we are late for the next class! Andrea: That’s true! Let’s go.
