Since taxation was compulsory, the Spaniards collected high taxes contrary to

the imposed amount of Reales on the natives. This abuse was similar to sending the
Warays subject to polo, to the shipyards of Cavite in 1649-1650, which is against the
directive of the Manila government. Moreover, not paying for what they purchased (rice
exploitation that caused Maniago’s Revolt in 1660) will truly leave the Filipinos starving
to death. All of these injustices are highly discriminating in nature because they do more
harm than good to the natives. Thus, it is understood that the taxation of the Spaniards
was a parasite on the lives of the Filipinos as it drained their wealth and efforts.
