“The Legend of Telaga Biru”

In ancient time, there was a hamlet called Lisama in Galela region, North Halmahera, North
Maluku. It was quiet and inhabited by only few families. In the hamlet, lived a great couple,
Magohiduru and Majojaru. They both are handsome and beautiful. Magohiduru wanted to
propose Majojaru right away, but it was hard because he realized that it was difficult to feed
himself, furthermore a family. So he decided to go abroad. He would come back once he earn a
proper living and marry Majojaru. So he ask to his parents, and they are allowed him to go.
Then he rushed to see his lover.

“Dear, there is something I need to tell you,” said Magohiduru.


“What is it? Tell me,” urged Majojaru.
“I’m thinking of going wander to make more money for us soon as I could do that, I will get
back here to propose you. Would you wait for me?” asked Magohiduru.

Majojaru was dumbfounded for a moment. She was speechless. She was imagining herself left
by her man. After a while, she seemed to understand the situation. It was for the good of them.

“Well, then. I won’t hold you back. I will always be waiting for you. You’re the one and only.
You’re the one I want to spend my life with. But come back soon, will you?” she said, wishing.

“Sure, I will come back soon as I can. You’re my only love and will always be. May God hear our
vow to live together forever,” said Magohiduru.

Next morning, Magohiduru went to abroad. Their temporary separation turned out to be so
hard to face for both. But Magihiduru was firm. He should go for their future.

One year on, Magohiduru not come back to his hamlet. Majojaro was growing anxious. One
day when she walking near the fort, she saw a ship docking. Wishfully, she came to the ship
wish her lover was among the passengers. Loting patience, she ask one of the ship crews about
Magohiduru.

“excuse me sir. Ineed to ask you something, if you don’t mind,”


“sure what is about?” asked the ship crew
“Do you know man named Magohiduru. He went sailing with you a year ago,” asked
Magohiduru
“Oh, that unlucky young man”
“what do yiou mean ‘that unlucky man’ sir? What happened to him?”

Then that ship crew told her a story of what happened a month ago. That Magohiduru was
killed during work. Sad, wounded, dumbfounded. That was Maajojaru feel after she heard that.
The she decided to find a lonely place to calm down herself. She took a seat upon a stone under
a banyan tree. She cried hard as her breaking heart. She cried for three days and three nights.
Then her tears flowed and swamped the place that she drowned herself to death.

After several days, some villagers found out the lake. They never seen it before. So, they asked
to their chief. They try to find out how the lake was formed. Then they have ceremony to call
the spirits of their ancestors and worhip God Jou Giki Moi.
A moment later, there was a mysterious voice saying : “Timbu dari sininga irogi de itei sodao
kongo dagulu de I uhi imadadi ak majobubu.”. The meaning was It came from a heart that is
crished, shedding tears that keep flowing like a spring. So the chief conclude that the lake came
from the tears of a girl whose heart was broken following to death her lover.

Then the case began to come to light after Magohiduru’s and Majojaru’s father reveled the
story of their child that have lost. Now the lake wase called Telaga Biru. It’s so pure just like
Majojaru’s love for Magohiduru.
