Clinical Experience
Mr Sharma has been a Consultant in General and Colorectal / Lower Gastrointestinal
Surgery since 2012. He carries out elective and emergency surgery for issues
pertaining to the gall bladder, small & large bowel and appendix. Mr Sharma is the
Clinical Governance and Mortality Review Lead for General Surgery at Wythenshawe
Hospital. He is CCRISP and ATLS trained and is an ATLS Instructor. He is also JAG
accredited for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy.

Clinical Interests
Mr Sharma has a special interest in colonoscopy, laparoscopic & minimally invasive
surgery for colorectal cancer, small bowel malignancies, diverticular disease,
inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), pelvic floor
pathology including rectal prolapse, intrarectal intussusception and sphincter
reconstruction (traumatic sphincter injuries including obstetric injuries). He also has
a special interest in transanal endoscopic microsurgery and complex perianal fistula
and incisional hernia surgery.

Research & Publications


Mr Sharma is actively involved in research and audit and has over 50 peer-reviewed
publications. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Manchester Academic Health
Science Centre (MAHSC) and is a colorectal disease reviewer for the British Journal
of Surgery. Mr Sharma is leading multiple local audits and is a hospital lead for several
national and international audits.

Medico-Legal
Mr Sharma has been an expert witness in general and colorectal / lower
gastrointestinal surgery for a number of years. He has undergone his expert witness
training with Bond Solon and is registered with APIL, AvMA and the UK Register of
Expert Witnesses. He enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both claimants
and defendants in personal injury and clinical negligence actions. Mr Sharma holds

weekly medico-legal clinics in Manchester but is happy to travel in order to conduct


home and prison visits. His claimant/defendant ratio split is approximately 70/30 and
he can usually turnaround reports within 4-6weeks, sooner if required.
