Discussion Question:

1. Do you think that people’s attitudes toward sexual behaviors are affected by whether they are
male or female? Do you think this influences how they judge others’ sexual behaviors? Why or
why not?

Definitely yes. It is because it starts with ourselves on how we see, understand, feel, and express
our own sexuality, and that males and females are totally different from each other in many
aspects. Me as a female and at the same time a part of the health allied degree, I know to myself
that together with my own morality about sexuality is the scientifically and biologically based
explanations and appearances that make up the wholeness of me, being a woman and I know
that on the other side too – the males.

And yes, these sort of things influence on how we judge others’ sexual behaviors. However, to be
on point, let’s see the reality. We were taught from the very first what a woman should do and
what a man should not do towards this kind of behavior. But it is just sad that in today’s
generation, sexual behaviors especially the wrong ones are being normalized by most of the
people here in the Philippines. The value and integrity of one’s sexual self is little by little being
gone and not respected.

2. What are the common beliefs and misconceptions about the body, sex, and sexuality? Discuss
briefly.

Since I am a female, I would like to focus on some common misconceptions and beliefs toward
us, WOMEN.

# 1 : A woman is not considered as virgin, once her hymen had raptured.

WRONG! First, hymen is not the basis of the virginity of a woman + the word VIRIGINITY should
not be a standard of people to utter just to let a woman feel that she is unclean!

One should know that hymen does not only stretch the first time a couple does a sexual
intercourse, because there are other ways such as riding a bike, splitting, doing sports, putting
something inside the vagina such as tampon/ menstrual cup, and etc.

Having a hymen and being a virgin are not the same thing because it’s not quite a simple topic as
it seems, for it is a sensitive matter.
# 2 : Women should just be in their houses taking care of the children and doing the household
chores, therefore WOMEN are WEAK!

WRONG AGAIN! Yes, all over the world, this is one of the most famous belief about the role of a
female UNTIL NOW. This is very intriguing especially that I experience this one. Women also have
the capability on doing what a man can do, however, it DEPENDS on the situation. And, about the
household chores, it is everyone’s RESPONSIBILITY whether you are a male or a female. But, of
course, everyone must know that we should NOT underestimate the power of a woman, because
without us who have the ability to carry a child in our wombs, there would be no such thing as
called, “humanity”, and this is the only thing that a MAN cannot and would never be able to do
NATURALLY. #respect_our_mothers! <3

# 3 : The way a woman dresses up together with the rape/ sexual harassment culture.

Personally, I am this kind of woman who wears clothes conservatively, but still got to experience
to be cat-called by a man while walking. I never wore shorts, sleeveless, and croptops publicly,
but still I became a victim in this kind of offense. I cannot also blame those women who are
wearing revealing clothes in public because they say that there is nothing wrong when they are
just being confident and being proud of their bodies, and yes, maybe that is their way of
expressing themselves. However, if we have the chance to protect ourselves as a woman, we
should know our limitations and responsibilities. Let’s be cautious to AVOID the potential risks.

Furthermore, I am very thankful at the same time that there is a new law that protects EVERYONE
from sexual harassment.

In the contrary, the part where most of the women are wrong about harassment is that, only men
are rapists and do sexual harassments.

WRONG! There are women too! Both men and women can be malicious and so we don’t need to
generalize men about this offense. This crime has no gender, therefore we have to teach BOTH
male and female the value of MUTUAL RESPECT and DIGNITY, and we have to increase everyone’s
awareness with regards to this.
