SAFETY RULE FOR FLOOD

Before the Flood

1. Keep on hand materials like sand bags, plywood, plastic sheeting, and lumber.

2. Install check valves in building sewer traps to prevent flood water from backing up sewer
drains.

3. Keep first aid supplies at hand.

4. Keep automobile fueled; if electric power is cutoff, filling station may not be able to
operate pumps for several days.

5. Keep a stock of foods which require little cooking and no refrigeration, electric power
may be interrupted.

6. Keep a portable battery-operated radio, emergency cooking equipment, light and


flashlights.

When you received a flood warning

1. Store drinking water in various containers. Water services may be interrupted.

2. If forced to leave your office, move essential items to safe ground. Fill tanks to keep
them from floating away. Grease immovable machineries.

3. Move to safe area before access is cut off by floor water.

During the Flood

1. Avoid areas subject to sudden flooding.

2. Do not attempt to cross a flowing stream which is above your knees.

3. Do not attempt to drive a flooded road; you can be stranded and trapped.

After the Flood

1. Do not eat cooked food that has come in contact with flood waters.

2. Seek necessary medical care at nearest hospital, if necessary.

3. Do not visit disaster areas; there maybe cut-off live wires.


4. Do not handle live electrical equipment in wet areas. Electrical equipment should be
checked and dried before operation.

5. Use flashlights, not lanterns or torches, to examine buildings. There maybe flammables
liquids/items inside.

6. Report broken utility lines to appropriate authorities. During any flood emergency, stay
tuned to your battery-operated radio and/or TV for news update. Information from
bulletins save your life.
