Measurements to be taken in case of Flood Alert:

 Change the switch #2 in front of the depot on straight position, it will help the water to flow
straight instead of coming inside the depot.
 Make sure there are no cables lying on the floor, all cables have to be tied and kept in safe
heights.
 Make sure all electronic tools are unplugged and safely stored.
 Make sure all workstation & cables inside the office are kept on the tables or cupboards, don’t
let them lay on the floor.
 The Trams and the TMV have to be covered with tarpaulins.
 Make sure the Trams are unplugged and the charging cables are kept on the racks.
 Make sure there is no equipment charging.
 Cardboard boxes inside the cage have to be kept on the racks. Don’t let any material that could
get damaged at the ground floor.
 Cables and electronic tools inside the cage have to be kept on the racks.
 Place the switch #1 inside the depot in to the Pit position, it will help the water to flow into the
pit.
 Make sure the tarpaulins are not covering the drainage and there aren’t other obstructions.
 Place sand bags inside the depot aligned in front of the gate, make sure they will not cover the
drainages.

Procedure to follow if there is FLOOD in the depot

 Report the flood immediately to either the maintenance team, Duty Manager or immediate
supervisor;
 If safe, attempt to isolate water flow;
 If no risk to safety, power down laptops and turn off electrical items, turn off lights, close doors
and prevent entry;
 If risk of electric shock, leave room immediately, leaving electrical items alone;
 If flooding is substantial and presents an immediate threat to safety, consideration should be
given to the evacuation of the depot; for more details, refer to SNC TRAM SOP 17-0005 Rev 3
Evacuating the Depot
 Where possible attempt to open communication with Emergency Services and notify them of
your current situation and numbers of persons involved (expect communications to be difficult,
owing to the volume of calls the Emergency Services may be receiving);
 If safe to do so, isolate electrical supplies;
 If safe to do so, isolate gas valves;
 Do not attempt to drive vehicles, including service (cleaning) vehicles during severe flooding
 If safe to do so isolate any electrical items and remove them to a place where they are likely to
be free from flood water.

Widespread area/ regional flood

 In the first instance, follow any Emergency Evacuation directions given by the Emergency
Services;
 Conduct a full Evacuation and account for all staff, identify any missing persons, and begin a full
search if required;
 If safe to do so, consider evacuating buildings and moving staff/visitors to areas likely to be free
from flooding.
 Assist others, in particular those who have specialist’s needs/requirements, or those who have
mobility issues (wheel chairs, etc.)
 Identify drinking water within the building, as longevity in the building maybe a realistic option;
 Where possible attempt to open communication with Emergency Services and notify them of
your current situation and numbers of persons involved (expect communications to be difficult,
owing the volume of calls the Emergency Services may be receiving);
 If possible, utilize mobile phones to monitor any radio communications from the Government;
 If possible identify dry clothing, blankets from lockers in the staff areas;
 If safe to do so isolate any electrical items and remove them to a place where they are likely to
be free from flood water (e.g. move to higher floor levels within buildings);
 Attempt to find higher ground;
 Flooding could cause a temporary or permanent loss of power, so avoid using lifts during these
periods;
 Do not attempt to drive vehicles, including service (cleaning) vehicles during severe flooding;
 If safe to do so, isolate electricity supplies;
 If safe to do so, isolate gas valves;
 If safe to do so, isolate valves in piping, carrying flammable or hazardous materials;
 Attempt to lock down the building.

Action in the event of sandstorm

 Advise members of the public/visitors and staff to remain indoors or head for shelter;
 Close doors of the Depot;
 Wear a mask or attempt to cover your nose and mouth with a fine towel, handkerchief or
Muslim type cloth;
 Shut down the exhaust fans inside the depot;
 Do not expose yourself to areas outside, unless it is essential of life threatening;
 Do not consume food which has been prepared outside during this period;
 Wash your hands as soon as you arrive inside, to prevent the spread of any possible bacteria,
caused by the storm;
 Keep yourself fully hydrated;
 Do not adjust air conditioning to very low levels, the temperature outside may be deceptive and
make you more prone to viral infections;
 Wait until the sandstorm has blown over, this could take several hours.
 Roll down any long sleeves, and attempt to cover as much of your exposed skin as possible;
 If possible alert others (mobile phone/radio) to your location;
 If finding indoor cover is not possible, find the most adequate sheltered area and crouch down
as small as possible, making sure your eyes, nose and mouth are covered.
