Welcome
Welcome to the Leadership workshop!!
Two things can lead towards powerful leadership - Awareness and Action. The focus of
the program is to enhance Awareness of how your choices affect your leadership and
prompt you to take action in the direction of a desired future. Your attitudes act as rudders
and propellers for the direction of life and pace of progress.
If we bring more sincerity and integrity into our lives, more truth and wisdom into our
minds, more goodwill and self-discipline into our hearts, not only will we be more
successful as leaders, but also all others with whom we are in touch.
The program guides human conduct not so much by imposing a particular code of rules to
be obeyed as by inculcating a general attitude to be developed. It does not tell us what to do
so much as it helps us to get the kind of strong willingness and moral perception which will
automate us about what to do.
These ideals have been reiterated too often to be new, but concrete application of them to
the actual state of affairs would be new. Most people perform far below their potential
because they are either unaware of the principles of achievement—or fail to apply them
consistently. Success is not an accident—it is a learned skill.
The program runs on the basis of your participation. To the degree you participate in this
program, you will benefit from it. This program does not force its views on any participant,
however guarantees positive results when applied practically. So learn and take action and
then evaluate the program. The testing ground of this program is your leadership
development.
We make our own destiny by our own thinking and actions. We are the masters and
creators of our life. We are not helpless. We have a free will and therefore power to choose
and create a strong leadership.

Jigsaw puzzle
Q1. How did you feel when you opened the envelop of all messed up pieces?
Q2. How did you feel when you saw the puzzle taking some shape?
Q3. What were your feelings when you discovered that pieces were missing to
complete the puzzle?
Q4. What does this project tell us about doing things as a team, helping others
succeed, and co-operating with others?
Q5. How do you feel about giving others their “missing pieces” so that you could
also get your “missing pieces”?
Q6. How would you feel about a person who gives you the piece, which need
without asking for anything in return?
3
Leadership is really a jigsaw puzzle. Putting the pieces together day by day is what
makes it exciting and interesting.
Contributing and cooperating with others is a vital part of living a powerful and
meaningful Leadership life.
You carry around with you at all times some of the missing pieces that would make
your colleagues and subordinates puzzles more complete. For example, your
cooperation, guidance, respect and care can make yours as well as your colleagues and
subordinates workabilities and support more comfortable and delightful.
The Secret
To the degree that you give others what they need, you
will get what you need

Things in My Control and Not in MY Control
Q1. How do you feel when you focus your attitudes in the Area of Concern? What is the
impact of such focus?
Q2. How do you feel when you focus your attitudes in the Area of Control? What is the
impact of such focus?
Responsibility:-
Ability to Choose Response
It is not blame or burden or guilt or authority or liability or credit that you take about a
situation or person/s.
It begins with your attitude to be cause in any matter.
Responsibility is the context with which you choose to operate from.
No one can make you responsible nor can any one impose responsibility on you.
It is respect that you give to yourself, an empowering context that motivates you take
action in the direction of accomplishing an objective.
16
Language Matters
How will you know that you are proactive and responsible?
One-way to determine which circle are we operating from is to distinguish between the
sequence of HAVE’S and the BE’s.
HAVE DO BE
Examples:-
BE DO HAVE
Examples:-
“I can be more patient”
“I can be wise”
“I can be Loving”
“I’ll be patient even with unreasonable customers”
17
It’s the Character Focus
Any time we think the problem is “out there”, that thought is the problem. We empower
something outside to control us. When the power is perceived to be outside to control us. When
the power is perceived to be outside we feel helpless, weak and frustrated. The mindset about
change is “outside-in” – i.e., what’s out there has to change before we can change.
The proactive approach is to change from the inside-out: to be different, to effect positive
change in whats out there- I can be more resourceful, I can be more diligent, I can be more
creative, I can be more cooperative. Thus a person feels empowered and takes action about
things which are in his direct control.
How can you shift some of the barriers listed earlier from Area of Concern to Your Area of
Control to be effective?

Communication Skills in Leadership
Effective communication is not a single technique. It is a combination of lot of little behaviors,
mannerisms – gestures, personality traits, posture, and the movement of eye, head, mouth etc. –
all of them indicate your attitudes towards people you are communicating with.
You tell others what you think of them by the way you communicate with them. When you are
with people continuous communication happens through one of the following ways:-
Words
Tone
Body Gestures
Types of Listening:
Ignoring, Pretending, Selective and Attentive, Reflective and Empathetic listening

All in the Same Boat
Choose one of the following responses to answer each question:
1. Never
2. Rarely
3. Sometimes
4. Often
Do you tend to be critical of yourself?
Do you appear confident while you may actually be insecure, worried, or ill at ease?
Do you feel that you need more freedom and oppurtunity to express yourself?
Do you think thoughts that you would not want anyone to know?
Do you feel tied down and don’t have too much freedom about the way you spend
your day?
1. Share your responses. Are there any that are more common than others?
2. How do you feel about disclosing these feelings toothers? Do you feel differently knowing
that others may experince the same feeling as you are?
27
Mind Locks
I can’t be patient with everyone.
Life is an extension of our thoughts and attitudes, what we think reflects in the world around
us- through our behaviour. If our thoughts about our abilities and ourselves are negative or
limiting, we tend to overlook the positives and the potential that we have. We actually
hypnotize ourselves to behave as we think. Every word we repeat and believe tends to shape
our behaviours and our future.
Words that may be having a negative impact on our lives are called “Mind Locks”. They are
words that take root and grow.
28
1. How many Mind Locks apply to you?
2. What other mind locks are you using? How are they affecting your self- confidence? How
can mind locks affect your health and happiness? Your success? Your relationships with
others? How are they affecting your life?
3. Mind Locks are negative limiting beliefs. What would you like to do with them?
The key to right conduct is to refuse to identify your-self with the mind locks. The hypnotic
illusion that it is really you must be broken: the way to break it is to deny every suggestion that
comes from it, to use the will in resisting it, to use the imagination in projecting it as something
alien and outside.

Using Beliefs

Dynamics of Beliefs
Beliefs give us mental strength. The basis of personal development is belief. Beliefs are
positive declarations that have a deeper permanent meaning and can give a new direction to
your life.
To use basic beliefs in releasing the power of the concious and subconcious mind, we need to:
Create written affirmations that claim the state you want to be in. it would be good if
they begin with “I am,” “I can,” “I will,” or “I am able to.”
Imbed the beliefs in the subconcious by repeating them at least three times a day.
When repeating a belief, seek total relaxation. Then place the affirmation in your mind,
and hold it there for at least 30 seconds.

From Me to Others
In this game we have experienced that how difficult it is to get our minds off ourselves. It may
have been a bit unrealistic, but it did indicate how much of our conversation is sprinkled with
“I”.
This shows that people are basically interested in themselves and therefore fail to develop
relationships. In order to build relationships we must eliminate as many as “I” viewpoints as
possible.
This requires the basic attitudes of understanding the importance of other people. The only
source of most of our problems are people. People problems – people getting along with people
and to provide good service to people – is the challenge for you at home and at work.
However, there are only three basic ways in which human relation problems can be solved.
1. Change the situation: If you do not like your boss, organization, neighbor, or
customers then leave them. Quit your job, get a transfer for yourself or your boss,
move out of the hood-hood.
2. Change the other person: If the person is bugging you, does things you don’t
like, has an unpleasant personality, is irritating in some way, then try to change his
behavior.
