Solution of the questions
Activity
Each concept must be explained using your own words.
1. What is an electromagnetic wave?
2. Parameters of electromagnetic waves (amplitude, frequency, wavelength and
wave number).
3. Difference between mechanical wave and electromagnetic wave.
4. How are electromagnetic waves generated?
5. The following is an equation of a wave:

E y ( x , t )=E o sen ( w t−k x ) ^j

Where Eo is the amplitude of the wave, w is the angular frequency and k as

the wave number. f is the frequency of the wave and λ is the wavelength.

w=2 πf k=
λ

If Eo, w and k correspond respectively to the last 3 digits greater than zero
of its identification number.

Example, if your id is 12345608 then, Eo=5, w=6 and k=8

In the next table, determine the amplitude Eo, frequency f and the
wavelength λ , then calculate the speed of wave propagation using the
following equation:
V p=f ∗λ

Use units of measure: Eo [V/m], w [Rad/s] and k [Rad/m]

Complete:

Parameter and unit Solution with units

Example:
a. Amplitude A [Volts/meter] Eo =5 V / m

b. Frequency f =w/2 π [Hz] Example:

w 6 rad /s
f= =
2 π 2 π rad

f =¿

c. Wavelength λ=2 π /k [m] λ=¿

V p=¿
d. Propagation speed V p= λ f [m/s]
