FOREWORD FROM THE
HEAD OF SCHOOL
I am eager to begin a new school year with you, at Sri Bintang
Academy Online.
This year, more exciting things will be coming our way. You will see a
more dynamic learning platform, more activities, and even contests
and games etc. Our vibrant and dedicated teachers will be working
hard to ensure you achieve your academic goals and have the best
learning experience. Not a dull moment here at Sri Bintang!
At Sri Bintang, we emphasise on values and beliefs as Character Traits:

You will learn the importance of being organised, of timely submission

of work and of putting in your utmost effort in everything that you
pursue. You will learn that being respectful and how you interact with
your teachers and friends also play an important part in your journey
towards excellence. At Sri Bintang, we applaud your high scores. We
also award you for your good character progress.
This handbook has been compiled to make clear the systems,

procedures and expectations of the school. We’ve also put together
some guidelines as well as the school calendar. There are pages for you
to jot down notes on classes that you attend daily so that you may
recall details like highlights of lessons, dates of topical quizzes and
deadlines of assignments etc.
I hope you and your parents find this handbook handy. Should you
need any assistance, you can always approach any of your teachers
through the learning portal. Most importantly, I look forward to your
progress and success through this school year.

GENERAL
EXPECTATIONS
This Online Learning Handbook applies to students who
are enrolled in the Sri Bintang Education Online
Programme. Our goal is to provide an online learning
experience that is engaging, motivating and effective to
facilitate and support students' learning and academic
development. To help accomplish these goals, we have
set forth the following expectations:
Live classes and assemblies etc will be held on designated

days and times.
Current policies for turning in work and attendance will be

maintained.
Students' work must be uploaded daily, not kept until the end
of the week and sent all at one time.
Students must be present for all scheduled live classes.
Some lessons may be videos / instructions / assignments /

quizzes via School Portal that need to be completed by students
before their due dates.
Students should give their best effort, exhibit their best online
class behaviour, and attend classes regularly.

TECHNOLOGY
REQUIREMENTS
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
Teachers and students will use Sri Bintang School Portal, Zoom
and Google Meet for teaching and learning.
Students must be logged in to Sri Bintang School Portal.

Computer:
Students will need a stable, reliable computer, with one of the
following operating systems: Mac OS X with Mac OS 10.7 or
later; Windows 10 or 8 (or later)
We do not recommend using a cell phone, iPad, or other tablet

for joining classes or completing assignments. An inexpensive
laptop or Chromebook would be a much better solution due to
their expanded capabilities to execute distance learning. We
also strongly recommend having a computer or Chromebook
for each Online Learning student due to complications that
arise with sharing a device.
High-Speed Internet Connection:

You will also need access to high-speed Internet, preferably
accessible via Ethernet cable right into your computer. Using
Wi-Fi may work, but will not guarantee you the optimal use of
your bandwidth. The faster your Internet, the better. We
recommend using a connection with a download/upload
speed of 5/1.5 Mbps or better.

Webcam:
Students may use an external webcam or one that is built into
the computer.
Headset:
The school has made it compulsory for each student to put on
his or her headphones / earphones during live lessons. Using a
headset or earphones with a mic reduces the level of
background noise heard by the entire class.
School Portal:
We use a designated School Portal for organisation of resources,
scheduling and communication. Students will need to log in to
https://sribintangeducation.neolms.com.au
Zoom / Google Meet:

Teachers may use other conferencing tools such as Zoom and
Google Meet as appropriate for the needs of their classes.
The links to these classes will be provided in the calendar inside
the portal. Students will be directed to the Zoom Rooms or
Google meet rooms via the links.

DIGITAL RESOURCES
Digital Resources
Digital resources including textbooks, workbooks, worksheets,
assignments etc are accessible from the School Portal,
including information on the courses, tests and examinations.
For students in Primary Levels, it is recommended that Parents

download and print the relevant workbook pages, worksheets
and assignments at the beginning of the term. Additional
materials will be available for download at least 1 week before
the lesson.
Parents who wish to order word copies of the compiled booklets

may place their orders here.
Assignments should be submitted by way of

attaching photos, files or scanned documents of
the work done by the students before the
deadlines. Specific instructions on how to
complete and submit the assignments will be Printed Material
given by the respective subject teachers. The Order
system does not allow submission of assignments after the
deadline. In cases where there is a genuine and valid reason for
handing in the assignments late, the student will need to send
in the assignment using the message section, accompanied
with a valid reason for the tardiness. The teacher will, at his or
her professional discretion, accept or reject the submission.

Teachers will monitor students' performance based on
their attendance, behaviour and conduct in class.
Students are expected to follow the SBE Online dress code

and general class decorum guidelines for live classes.
Students should have their handphones in a different room

during class time and have a designated place to work free
from distraction.
SBE Online students are expected to engage in active learning

and participate meaningfully in all class activities (i.e. discussion,
debate, writing, problem-solving, etc.) rather than remain as
passive listeners.
SBE Online students are expected to ask questions during

class time. However, if there are further questions, students may
ask the teacher for clarification using the messaging system
found on the top of the School Portal. Messages are usually
replied by teacher within 24 hours.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
Who do I contact if I have a question?
The first person to contact if you have questions or concerns
about school work is the teacher. They will want to know what
kind of difficulty your child is experiencing - with a particular
assignment, technical glitches, difficulty downloading or
uploading things, etc. It is important that teachers
know as soon as possible so that they can address the problem.
Your form and subject teachers are contactable via
messaging system on the portal. They will respond within 24
hours.
If you have a general question about online learning or

administrative matter please contact the school administrative
number during office hours.
How will the school ensure that my child has continuity of

learning?
Teachers and administrators have worked closely to finalize a
online learning plan that will ensure continuity of learning.
Using our School Portal, Zoom and Google Classrooms, and
other technology platforms, our teachers will remain in contact
with every student and maintain an open line of
communication with parents.
If my child is sick on a school day, what should my family

do?
Just like on a normal school day, a parent should notify the class
teacher or the admin on duty if a child is sick. Because each
lesson is documented, students will have the opportunity to
review the lesson at a later time when they are feeling better
and catch up with the assignments and homework.

GOAL OF SBE ONLINE
The goal of the SBE Online is to provide the best possible
academic experience while staying connected as a community
of learners. We will use various technology resources to facilitate
learning and deliver our lesson for students to achieve their
academic goals.
On school days, each student will log in via school portal at 8:45
a.m. and attendance will be taken. Students and parents will be
able to find the schedule with the link to livestream in
designated classrooms / Google Classroom / Zoom. For this
reason, each SBE Online student must have their own dedicated
device. The agenda for the day can be found on the School
Portal Dashboard. Depending on the grade level, teachers will
schedule live instructional sessions which students will be
expected to attend.
By the end of the day, students should complete their daily

assignments and/or to-do list, being mindful of taking brain
breaks, which ideally includes physical activity and/or exercise.
Form teachers will check in with individual students regularly.

Parents who wish to schedule a meeting with the teacher, the
vice-principal or principal of the school may put in their request
via messaging or Google form if a parent would like to schedule a
conversation.

Role of Parents - Grades K-6
Calmly establish routines and expectations for your child.

Take an active role in your child’s learning. Assist with logging
into the device and various applications, and walk through
instructions when needed.
Help your child manage online learning by requiring
attendance at all classes.
Help your child to plan and hand in work, and stay focused
and on task.
Create a comfortable, distraction-free place to work.
Out of courtesy for others, please ensure that distracting
things do not appear on the screen during class, such as but not
limited to pets, toys, food or other things that detract from the
learning environment.
Parents and siblings should not appear on the screen during
class, have conversations, or do things that distract the student
from class.
No avatar should be used and only appropriate virtual
background are allowed.
Provide opportunities for your child to move around during
intervals.

Summary of Student Expectations for Online Classes
Give one’s best effort and exhibit appropriate online class

behaviour.
Attend all scheduled live classes for the full period unless a
parent or guardian notifies the form teacher via email that a
child is sick. Teachers will take attendance at the beginning of
each live class and note if a student departs.
Stay in contact with teachers as needed.
Check email at least twice daily.
Use the message section on the School Portal to ask

questions.
Be appropriately dressed for class. See dress code for details.
Students are expected to attend live classes with their videos

and audio turned on and to function as a full participant in each
class, contributing to the class dynamic and success of the
entire class.
Come prepared to class with all necessary materials - books,

paper, notes, pencil, calculator and this handbook.
Handphones are not to be in the same room with students

while in class. This is to help students focus on learning what
teachers are teaching and participate fully without distraction.
Keep all other browser tabs closed during school hours unless
otherwise required for class activities.

Tech Management Expectations for Students
Check email at least twice daily.
Check the School Portal Dashboard each day for live class links
and assignments.
Do not share a class link with anyone who is not a member of
that class or invite them to class with you.
In-Class Expectations
Be courteous and respectful online.
Refrain from being anywhere online other than in class.
The camera must be turned on for the entirety of the
class period, unless the teacher asks or gives permission to turn
it off.
Your face (not a picture of it) must be on screen and
immediately recognizable; no masks or face coverings.
Please sit up, as in a chair; do not recline or lie down.
Be appropriately dressed.
Do not wear or display clothing or other items with
inappropriate messages or symbols.
Headphones or earphones must be put on through class time.
The microphone must be muted unless speaking.
Take turns speaking, contribute during discussions, and ask
questions during class.
Be mindful to use chat appropriately and remember that most
classes are being recorded.
Cell phones must be in a different room during class, so that
you are not distracted.
Be on time to class and remain in class for the duration of the
class period.
Students are responsible for handing in all assignments by the
due dates.
Computer issues do not excuse late work, unless a parent
emails the teacher with an explanation of an extenuating
circumstance.

POLICIES AND
GUIDELINES
Corporate Print & Publishing
Your child’s photographs and videos may be taken and used in
our corporate print and media such as product items and
advertorials. Other than pictures and videos of the children,
parents also need to note that children’s work samples are also
used for documentation, observation and media purposes.
These shall be kept private and confidential in our intellectual
property library for official use.
Issue Resolution
Parents should attempt to resolve any arising issue through
amicable dialogue and discussions with the teacher or staff
involved outside of the lesson time. Please refer to the
procedure on how parents may raise issues or concerns to the
school. If you are unable to resolve the issue in this manner, you
may submit a formal complaint to the management so that the
matter can be addressed accordingly. Displays of aggression or
hostility are not appropriate.
Parents and families can help children make connections

between what goes on during class time and outside of school
hours to enrich their learning experience beyond the classroom.
You could:
• understand that your child is naturally curious and encourage
your child to explore and ask questions
• take time to engage your child in play, encourage your child to
talk about his experiences, express his thoughts and feelings
and explain how he solves problems and overcomes challenges.
The parent-teacher partnership is an on-going, collaborative

effort to ensure that your child receives a quality pre-primary
education in which his potential and talents are fully
maximised.

ADMINISTRATIVE AND
FINANCIAL POLICIES
Collection of Fees
Your child’s school fees are payable before or on the due date of
the invoice, usually 14 days before the beginning of each term.
All fees paid are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Modes of Payment
Parents may pay their children’s fees via online bank transfer or
stripe through debit or credit card, or GrabPay. Ensure that you
save and send a copy of the proof of transaction to our Admin
whatsapp and are given our official receipt for your transaction
via email within 48 hours of the payment. We are not
responsible for any payment that cannot be tracked due to no
provision of proof of transaction or payment that is made to or
through any bank account belonging to any other except that
of Sri Bintang Academy Sdn Bhd.
Subscription Payment Via STRIPE

If you are making your payment monthly via STRIPE, please be
informed that deductions will be made on the specific day of
each month. Please ensure sufficient funds in your accounts.
We reserve the right to make a second attempt to deduct the
arrears in the following month. Should this too be unsuccessful,
you will be asked to make your settlement in full through
online fund transfer. In the event of double deduction by the
banks, parents are to alert the school admin immediately.

Late Payment & Recovery of Outstanding Fees
You will be issued a reminder notice should we fail to receive
your payment during our fee collection period. You will need to
respond within 03 days of this reminder. If we do not hear from
you at the end of 07 days, you will be issued a second reminder
notice for immediate settlement of your child’s fees. Should
both our attempts to recover the arrears be unsuccessful, we
will proceed to administrative withdrawal of your child.
Withdrawal Policy
Parents or Guardians are to give, in writing, on or before the first
day of month (for online school) and first day of the term (for
physical school) notice of a student leaving the School at the
end of the month or term respectively. Failure to do so will result
in forfeiture of the deposit or imposition of penalty charges
equivalent to 1 month or 1 term fees, whichever is applicable.
Upon receiving your notice of withdrawal, our Admissions

Advisor or Supervisor shall contact you for a follow up. You shall
be asked to clear any outstanding payment. Your withdrawal
application will then be processed. Monthly fees are charged for
a minimum of 30 days of advanced notice until termination
date, regardless of whether or not the child has been attending
school.
Deposit Refund
Refund of deposits, if any, shall be communicated to you within
one month from your child’s last day. Deposits cannot be used
for the settlement of invoice or to offset any outstanding
balance of fees.
