I would like to participate in a study program in London, like ERASMUS.

Studying abroad is increasingly an option. Let the thousands of young

Portuguese (and others) who decide – every year – to leave for other
countries in search of training say so.

The truth is that academic life is not limited to the knowledge that
appears in the pages of school textbooks, it can and should go through
international experiences and the enrichment (personal and academic)
that these experiences make possible.

But of course, to study abroad it's not enough to choose a

school/university in any other country, grab your bags and leave.

The choice is ours, however, even though everyone who chooses to

study abroad does not hesitate to emphasize the advantages of the
experience (such as: personal enrichment or learning new languages,
for example), it is also necessary to analyze the cons of this option.

The advantages of studying abroad are many, such as:

1. Contact with a new culture.

2. Personal enrichment.

3. Exchange/sharing of knowledge.

4. Learning/improving other languages.

5. Contact with different educational systems.

6. Academic and professional enhancement (works as an added value

for Curriculum Vitae – CV – and professional career).

7. Acquisition of international experience (which can work as a

differentiating element in future recruitment processes).

8. Possibility of attending some of the most prestigious educational

establishments.
9. Development of independence and responsibility.

10. Possibility to travel and meet new people.

But the disadvantages also exist and are sometimes difficult to

overcome, such as:

1. Distance from family and friends.

2. Need to adapt to a different culture, language and routine.

3. Communication difficulties (at least in the first phase).

4. Difficulty in studying, particularly if classes are taught in a language

that is not mastered.

5. High associated costs (with, for example, travel, materials, fees, etc.).

6. Difficulty in integrating and getting used to a different teaching

model.

Nevertheless, and despite the disadvantages I consider that studying

abroad is an experience that is a dream come true for everyone who
does that kind of thing, not only for the experience but for the
memories that it gives us
