CHAPTER 1

ABSTRACT

The product I choose to make is a Rose Gift Box and it compose of two art work
which is the gift box and the paper rose. I make the box with a lid and it is ideal to have
two squares with the base color square being a tiny bit smaller than the box lid. Making a
paper box takes a lot of folds but apart from one. Folding and just repeat with the
opposite edge, repeat on the other side and fold down the flap, repeat for the other end of
the box. Lastly to make it look like a gift box, you may need a ribbon and I use red ribbon
for my box and I just place it to my box to make a beautiful gift boxes. The making of the
paper rose is usually begin in cutting the paper to make a petal. Next is I assemble the
petals and glue each of it around of a circle in layers accordingly. To make the stick of
the rose I just use a stick and cover it with green color paper and next is I attach the leaf
of the rose. For a surprise I just not only put a rose flower inside the box but I also put
some shredded paper and make mini writing paper with a mini envelop to put your letter
to who you going to give the gift. I also put some freebies chocolate to my product for a
sign of thank you to the customer buying my product. This product of mine is a kind of
gift you gave to anyone you like or to your love ones and the reason why I make this
product because of the coming valentine’s day, which is the day of love which I think is a
great time to sell a product like this. So if you are looking for a gift, this could be a
perfect gift to you.

INTRODUCTION

We all dream of elevating the kind of life that we used to have. To improve the
quality of living for our family is our main goal. The only way that this could be possible
is when we put both our heart and mind into something that will eventually flourish into
something positive. Staying employed for the rest of my life is not something I
envisioned myself doing. I don’t want to spend all my youthful years building someone
else’s dreams. I want to build my own dream. I have always dream of having a business, I
want to be my own boss. Above all, I want to have financial freedom where I own all
money and I am the who will manage all of it. I believe that as an entrepreneur I should
be an open-minded individual, that enables me to think of creative thoughts and ideas that
they can use to set-up their own business/businesses. In order to put these creative
thoughts and ideas to good use I also need to be innovative. The capacity and willingness
to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to
make a profit. This supports the fact that as an entrepreneur I need to be willing to take
calculated risks, with the aim of prospering and therefore meeting aims and objectives.
As an Entrepreneur it is my capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a
business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit. It’s easy to set my
mind about the “right-now” aspect of your business, because the results are easy to see.
And of course owning a business can also mean taking care of the financial aspects of my
business. I can develop financial skills to help me organize and keep track of the financial
processes in my business and developing this entrepreneurial skill is one of the things I
would like to engage in managing and owning a business.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
This chapter included and presented the project-related ideas, concepts, data, facts and
information which is related to the present project as well as explanations and logical
linkages between previous research and present work.

Conceptual Literature
Rose. Roses are flowers with a rich scent. There are about 100 species, or types,
of rose plant. They belong to the rose family of plants, called Rosaceae. Most roses
grown in gardens and sold by florists are hybrid tea roses. Roses grow almost all over the
world. The plants grow in the form of shrubs or vines. The stems usually have sharp
thorns. The flowers vary in color and size. They come in shades of pink, red, orange,
yellow, and white. They may be from 0.5 inch (1.3 centimeters) to 7 inches (18
centimeters) across. Wild roses usually have five petals. Roses grown by people often
have many sets of petals. The petals grow out from a fleshy, fruitlike structure known as
a hip. Roses make beautiful decorations. But roses have other uses besides being pretty.
People use the fragrant oil from rose blossoms in perfumes. They also use rose hips to
make jams and herbal teas. Rose hips are a rich source of vitamin C (Greb, 2023).
One of the most recognizable flowers in the world, the rose is widely regarded as
the best representation of love. However, there is more than meets the eye when it comes
to roses. It has an incredibly rich and interesting history and it is used widely in the area
of medicine. The rose is a flower that deserves more than just a cursory glance. One of
the most beloved flowers in the world, roses have been revered throughout history and
they continue to play a very important part. The old English word rose comes from the
Latin word rosa which most probably originates from the Greek and Italian rhodon. The
rose is considered the “queen of the garden” (Rhys, 2022).
Beloved by many, roses (Rosa spp.) are a favorite garden flower, and the
characteristics of the rose flower, including its shape and cherished scent, make it easily
recognizable. Roses have been cultivated for millennia and have a vibrant history that
dates back thousands of years. Although they are predominately thought of as a token of
love, roses come in a wide variety of types and colors, and can mean many things (Beyer,
2021).
Gift. It’s that time again when we’re busy buying, wrapping, and giving them.
Sometimes we call them gifts, sometimes presents. The words come to us from different
language families. Gift comes from the old Germanic root for “to give.” It referred to an
act of giving, and then, to the thing being given. In Old English it meant the dowry given
to a bride’s parents (Okrent, 2022).
A gift is money or personal property voluntarily given from one party to another
party, in circumstances where the: giver does not intend for the recipient to return or
repay the property or money given. That is, the property or money is given
unconditionally with no obligation on the recipient to make a repayment; and transaction
is charitable in nature, and the giver gains no benefit from giving the gift (Swain, 2023).
A gift is anything that has monetary value that you obtain for less than “market
value.” The gift might be tangible or intangible. A gift may include, but is not limited to,
a gratuity, favor, discount, cash, gift certificate, gift card, entertainment, hospitality, loan,
forbearance, or other item having monetary value. It also applies to services, training,
transportation, travel, lodging, and meals. “Market value” is the retail price that you, the
recipient of the gift, would have to pay to purchase it. If you cannot readily determine the
retail value of a gift, you may estimate its value by reference to the retail cost of items of
similar quality. If a ticket entitles you to food, refreshments, entertainment, or any other
benefit, the market value is the face value printed on the ticket (Doi.gov.com 2023).
Box. A cardboard box is a shipping container made of layers of heavy-duty paper
more than 0.01 inch (0.25 mm) thick. The term cardboard is used as a generic descriptor
for various types of solid firm papers used to produce boxes. The general term cardboard
box includes several types of paper boxes, such as corrugated boxes and chipboard boxes.
The various shapes of cardboard boxes are produced by folding, cutting, and shaping the
sheets of heavy duty layered papers. Chipboard boxes are part of the recycling industry
and are made of recycled cardboard, paper, paper scraps, and sawdust that have been
shredded and compressed into firm panels. It has a similar construction to that of
cardboard since it consists of materials that have been compressed and glued to form
solid firm sheets (Iqsdirectory.com, 2023).
Cardboard boxes are designed and constructed to serve as protection for materials
and products. They are lightweight with firm sides that can cushion impacts and contain
products such as clothing and toys. Sheets of cardboard are used as dividers for larger
more durable boxes as well as padding. A major factor in the wide use of cardboard
boxes is their ability to be recycled, making them less costly than other forms of
containers. The layers of paper used to produce cardboard boxes can be shredded,
chemically treated, and formed into rolls to produce recycled paper or chipboard
(Iqsdirectory.com, 2023).
Cardboard boxes come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, configurations, and forms
designed to fit the specific needs of a product. The standard cardboard box is made of
paper from recycled boxes or the pulp of trees. The final paperboard consists of layers of
pulp that have been treated, shaped, and pressed together. The manufacture of cardboard
boxes begins with heavy-duty papers created from tree pulp. The fibers from trees are put
through a variety of treatments to produce the stable raw materials for making boxes
(Iqsdirectory.com, 2023).
Paper. Paper is a thin sheet usually manufactured from cellulose pulp derived
from wood and other lignocellulose materials such as cotton, rice or wheat straw for
writing, printing and packaging purposes. Some of the important production processes
and properties of different kind of papers will be reviewed in this fact sheet. It is believed
that paper originated in China in the 2nd century as alternative writing material to silk.
Production of paper was introduced to Europe in the 12th century. Almost 200 years of
mechanized production of paper resulted in significant changes in information
networking all over the world. The first step in a typical paper manufacturing process is
to produce pulp from wood chip. Softwoods, such as spruce and pine with slender, strong
and elastic fibers, are most commonly used species in North America (Hiziroglu, 2016).
Paper is a fascinating artistic metamorphosist. This easily accessible material, that
is most often used to write on or scribble doodles on, may be crafted to create
magnificent gallery-worthy paper art! Different craft techniques, whether it is cutting,
folding, and pasting to stamping and embossing, can transform a simple paper into
something truly astonishing. From delicate paper cutouts to expressive origami; from
larger than life paper flowers to fantastical paper illustrations, there are a lot of cool stuff
to make with paper (altenew.com, 2014).
Paper craft is the broad term for making objects out of paper. A lot of styles and
practices fit under this general category so we'll take a look at a lot of them to see what
qualifies. I think paper is really approachable because it's something everyone has
experience with. It's inexpensive to start with and a very tactile material. Because of this
it's becoming very popular. There's a ton of simple paper craft that's easy to do fast at
home but I'm seeing a lot more complex work being done out of paper. Paper craft has an
aesthetic, educational and therapeutic value. This art form is particularly popular with
children because it's so approachable. It strengthens understanding of geometry, develops
problem solving skills, promotes multi-cultural awareness, teaches patience and
following instructions. Maybe most importantly, paper craft also serves as a medium to
express feelings and have fun. Some common types of paper craft are origami,
decoupage, card making, scrapbooking, paper flowers, quilling, paper making, paper
layering and bookbinding (Residentdesign.com, 2020).
Gift Box. The gift box is a practical gift package equipped with gifts for relatives
and friends to express affection, and is an extension of the social needs of a function of
packaging. On major festivals or anniversaries, we will buy or make gifts by hand. All of
this requires beautiful packaging boxes to decorate to express romance or solemnity. In
general, the exquisiteness of a gift box is proportional to the value of the item, and
expensive or fragile items often use delicate linings or ribbons to decorate the item. The
value of the gift is relatively high, and the cost of transportation is necessarily high, such
as collision avoidance and deformation-free (Suki, 2019).
Gift boxes are classified according to packaging materials: paper packaging,
plastic packaging, metal, wood packaging, glass containers and composite materials.
Generally, the gift box is mostly made of paper, which is related to our advocacy of green
packaging. Paper packaging is easy to produce, beautifully printed and has a high
recycling rate. No matter what the gift, just put a beautiful bow on the box, it will
immediately make the gift itself more attractive. The hand-made, large and round bow
becomes part of the packaging, bringing tension to the packaging, full of vitality, while
giving a sense of fashion and vitality, and conveying the quality and value of the gift.
(Suki, 2019).
The gift box was originally used to hold gifts, in order to make the gift look more
upscale. Therefore, the packaging manufacturer believes that the initial function of the
gift box is to enhance the value of the product, which is why the gift box has been widely
used in various industries. A product with a market price of 50 plus a gift box will feel
like it is 100 or higher. Secondly, the gift box also has the basic functions of packaging,
protecting the goods: the gift box can package the goods without shaking, squeezing,
shaking, sunscreen, waterproof, leak proof and other functions during transportation.
Some box manufacturers have customized some special functions for customers'
requirements, such as: display functions, sales promotion, etc. The biggest advantage of
the gift box is the high-end parity, which is not worse than the grade of high-grade
wooden boxes and iron boxes, but the price is only half of the wooden box iron box. And
manufacturers know that the gift box is made of paper, the material is relatively
environmentally friendly and can be recycled. It is precisely because of these advantages
that many high-end packaging boxes will choose gift boxes (Mlcustomgiftbox.com,
2018).

Research Literature
The study of Kavanagh et. al., (2001) identified that the novel method for
investigating the interfaces between art work and managerial work in the creative
industries. The method, which we are calling dispraise, seeks to transcend the traditional
divisions between the academic world and the world of practice. This particular dispraise
is a structured, iterative dialogue between an academic, a manager, and an artist on the
themes identified in the call for papers. This dialogue, which is archived on email, is then
analyzed and salient themes are identified. In this dispraise the following four themes
were elicited. The first theme centered on the explosion of management discourse into the
creative industries. This translation is not without difficulty and indeed the dispraise
suggests that management discourse may actually be imploding through this translation –
a translation too far as it were. The second theme explored the difference between the
creative industries and ‘normal’ business and introduced the metaphor of chelation to
describe the primary need to manage and protect safe spaces for creativity to happen. The
third theme was money and this theme explored how art is valued and funded, especially
in a postmodern world where the notion of authenticity and Taste have been
problematized. The fourth theme discussed how art is routinely identified as the highest
expression of human achievement and yet is largely ignored in commercial discourse.
One explanation for this is to consider artistic work as part of the abject.
The study of Dureisseix (2012) determined that origami (paper folding) has
greatly progressed since its first usage for design of cult objects in Japan, and
entertainment in Europe and the USA. It has now entered into artistic areas using many
other materials than paper, and has been used as an inspiration for scientific and
engineering realizations. This article is intended to illustrate several aspects of origami
that are relevant to engineering structures, namely: geometry, pattern generation, strength
of material, and mechanisms. It does not provide an exhaustive list of applications nor an
in-depth chronology of development of origami patterns, but exemplifies the
relationships of origami to other disciplines, with selected examples.
The study of Zsolnai et, al., (2016) investigate that with its exclusive focus on
profit-making, modern-day businesses tend to violate the integrity and diversity of natural
ecosystems, the autonomy and culture of local communities and the chance that future
generations will lead a decent life. The core of the metaphysics of modern-day business is
what Martin Heidegger calls “calculative thinking”. It is contrasted with poetic thinking
represented by genuine art. To preserve nature and to satisfy human needs, gentle, careful
ways of undertaking economic activities are needed. The paper analyses the cases of Illy
Café and Brunello Cucinelli as art-based companies to show that art can inspire business
to become more aesthetic organization engaged in socio-ecological value creation and the
enrichment of the quality of life.
The study of Hubbe & Bowden (2009) aims that for over 2000 years the manual
craft of papermaking has been practiced all over the world utilizing a variety of
techniques. This review describes the evolution of hand papermaking and its cultural
significance. Paper’s evolution has been shaped by the structure and chemical
composition of the fibers. Almost every aspect of modern papermaking technology has
been foreshadowed by traditional practices. Such practices were passed down for many
generations within families of papermakers. The main sources of cellulosic fiber evolved
as the ancient craft migrated from its birthplace in China to Korea and Japan, the Islamic
world, and then to Europe and America. Though most paper made today comes from
automated, continuous production systems, handmade paper has enjoyed a resurgence,
both as a traditional craft and as an art-form. In addition, traditional papermaking
methods can provide insights to help in modern applications involving cellulosic fibers.
The study of Makyao (2013) focused that the main objective of this study was to
examine challenges faced by handicraft businesses in implementing product promotion
strategies. It was specifically focused on strategies, effectiveness of the strategies and the
challenges in implementing the promotion strategy. Descriptive approach was adopted
that enabled researcher to apply various methods of data collection and analysis where
questionnaires were used for data collection while tabulation and graphs were put into
use for data analysis. Data were gathered at Makonde Handicraft Village which is located
at Mwenge area, along Sam Nujoma road and Tingatinga Arts Cooperative Society,
Oysterbay. The major findings showed that personal selling is the effective strategy and
the other promotion strategies like newspapers, radio, billboards, television, magazine,
public relations, email and internet use, personal selling and trade fairs are not commonly
applicable. Government negligence, exploitation, lack of training, lack of financial
support, lack of promotion assistance from stakeholders, tax related complaints,
expensive working tools, inability to engage with ICT and lack of ownership to the
working places were the most critical challenges facing these businesses. Other striking
results include the finding that the handcraft sector is dominated by owners/operators
with low education level and is also attracting extremely few youngsters, a threat to its
future sustainability. The study recommends that the Government through its relevant
ministries, departments and agencies should come forth with support or policies that
would create an environment for all stakeholders, including financial institutions, training
institutions, and NGOs, to lend a helping hand in promoting skills development in the
area as well as the promotion of handcraft businesses and products.

Synthesis
Roses are fragrant flowers that belong to the Rosaceae family. They have strong
thorns and grow as bushes or vines. They have five petals and appear in pink, red, orange,
yellow, and white. They make lovely decorations and may also be used to manufacture
fragrances. The rose is called the "queen of the garden". Gifts are money or personal
property given willingly by one party to another party with no expectation of the receiver
returning or repaying the property or money. Cardboard is a general one that refers to a
variety of thick, dense sheets used to make boxes. Corrugated and chipboard boxes,
which are composed of recycled cardboard, paper, paper scraps, and sawdust, are
included in this category. Boxes made of cardboard are lightweight, have solid sides, and
are built to protect objects and supplies. To create recycled paper or chipboard, they can
be shaped into rolls, chemically treated, and recycled. For writing, printing, and packing
uses, paper is a thin sheet typically made from cellulose pulp produced from wood and
other lignocellulose sources. Making something out of paper often falls under the
category of paper craft. The gift box is a useful gift package that contains gifts for family
and friends to communicate affection and is an extension of the social demands of a
packaging function. It is composed of paper, which is inexpensive to make, elegantly
printed, and recyclable. The bow is an integral aspect of the package, adding tension and
expressing the quality and worth of the present. Gift boxes are constructed of paper, an
eco-friendly and recyclable material, and were initially used to contain gifts.

In General

The primary goal of this study was to analyze the problems that handcraft
enterprises experience while executing product promotion techniques. It was primarily
focused on strategies, their success, and the problems associated with implementing the
promotion plan. The descriptive technique was utilized, which allowed the researcher to
use several methods of data gathering and analysis, such as questionnaires for data
collection and tabulation and graphs for data analysis. Personal selling was shown to be
the most successful method, whereas other marketing strategies such as newspapers,
radio, billboards, television, magazines, public relations, email and internet use, personal
selling, and trade fairs were found to be ineffective. Other notable findings include the
discovery that the handicraft industry is dominated by owners/operators with low
education levels and attracts very few young people, posing a danger to its long-term
viability. The study recommends that the government, through its relevant ministries,
departments, and agencies, provide support or policies that would create an environment
for all stakeholders, including financial institutions, training institutions, and non-
governmental organizations (NGOs), to lend a helping hand in promoting skill
development in the area, as well as the promotion of handcraft businesses and products.
