<W/O SPECTRUM>
1-Define materials property and Frame sections.

2-Draw frame.

3-Set frame releases and end lenghts. (end lenght offset>rigid zone factor>0.5)

*release beams and girders connected to other beams and girders

*no releases for cantilevers and continous beams. (obviously)

4- Define and Draw slab pannels.

>>mesh slabs. (not greater than 1 meter)

*manual mesh (faster run)

>edit>mesh areas>choose options (beams should be selected also)

*auto mesh
>assign>area/shell/automesh

(recommendation-manual mesh per grid and automesh per for further meshing)(Draw
slab as per panel)

5-Property modifiers.

Columns: Ix and Iy = 0.70

Shearwalls: Ix and Iy = 0.70
Girders: T, Ix and Iy = 0.35
Slabs: f11, f22 and f12 = 0.5
m11, m22 and m12 = 0.25

6 - Loadings

>Define static load cases:

*Dead (w/ self multiplier)
*Live
*SDL
*EQX (UBC 97 OR IBC 2006)
*EQY (UBC 97 OR IBC 2006)
NOTE: Modify lateral loads for EQ load cases. Inputs Direction + Eccentricity
(For EQX X Dir + Eccen Y), R, Soil type, Seismic Zone factor, Seismic source type,
Dist to source (10 to 15), Importance factor(I).

<FOR UBC EQ LOADINGS>

>Define response spectrum functions
Inputs: Ca and Cv. Default value 0.4

>Add load combos

TDL
TLL
EQX
EQY
(see combo reference)

>Apply loads
*slabs-area loads
*beams and girders-line loads (for walls)
>Define mass source
*from loads
*Dead-1
*Sdl-1
*Live-.25
*lump lateral

>Diaphragm Reinforcements
*Select Slabs to assigned with diaphragm (note diaphragm cannot be located at
block-out)
*Select "SEMI RIGID"

>Set analysis option

*ux,uy,uz,rx,ry,rz
*dynamic analysis
*number of modes 3
*ritz loads vector
accel x
accel y
accel z
*delta p (for less than three storey possible to disregard)

<W/ APPLICATION OF SPECTRUM>

> MODEL STRUTURE

-modeling member structures

>DEFINE LOAD CASES

-dl
-sdl
-ll
-eqx
-eqy

>DEFINE RESPONSE SPECTRA FUNCTION

-ubc97
-input CA, CV.

>DEFINE RESPONSE SPECTRA CASES

-specx = u1-ubc97(factor)-9.81(scale factor) ; u2=0
-specy = u2-ubc97(factor)-9.81(scale factor) ; u1=0

>RUN
-to get spectra values

>GET EQUIVALENT SPECTRA / DIST.

-go to display/show tables/ building output/storey shears
*(check load cases to show eqx,eqy,specx,specy)
-tranfer table to excell
-get specFx and specFy

specFx = sqrt(Vx^2 + Vy^2) --------->EQx

_________________

sqrt(Vx^2 + Vy^2) --------->Specx

specFy = sqrt(Vx^2 + Vy^2) --------->EQy
_________________

sqrt(Vx^2 + Vy^2) --------->Specy

(note: - computed specFx and specFy are only spec factors)

-after having specFx and specFy, create load SPECX and SPECY then input the scale
factor using the value on excel. This is to substitute EQX and EQY

-input specfx and specfy combos together with the space factors computed
respectively
-interpolate specfx and specfy combos to +-1+-.3 under EQmax envelope

>Run Model

Note: the difference between the model considering sepectra is only the shear
distribution especially if the building has irregular shaped floor area. It
modifies and provides more realistic shear distributions. For regular shaped
structures you can neglect the consideration of spectra.
