Modeling of the Building:

Define:
1- Define the Grid System as per structural framing plan.
2- Select code of Design (Mostly ACI318-02 or -99 and UBC-97 acceptable)
3- Set Special Seismic effects on more necessary for SMRF.
4- Define Material Properties
5- Define Frame Section
Modifiers
In, Iyy. Beam -------0.35, 0.35, Column -------- 0.7, 0.7
(For Beams Torsional Constant varies 0.01 to 1.0.....0.30 is preferred)
6- Define stabs & wall section.
Modifying factors for slabs and Ramp
Bending Moment M11, M22, M12 ------ 0.25
For walls (Shear Wall)
Membrane f11, f22, f12 --------- 0.7
Retaining Wall:
Membrane and Bending modifier =0.1(No need to consider stiffness of the Basement wall.)
7- Define load cases
D.L. = FN + PAR + WALL + UPL + TANK + MACH + F.C. + MEP etc.
L.L = RL + L.L [Live Load Reduction applied as per UBC-97 Clause 1607.5 ]
EQ = EQX + EQY + EQEX + EQEY + EQNX + EQNY
Wind = Wx + Wy + W45
8- Define Mass Source (All D.L. with 1.0 factor)
Assign:
9- Model one floor
10- Auto Mesh Slabs and Manually Mesh Walls.
11- Assign Diaphragm on the Slabs (Rigid Diaphragm for RCC Slabs)
(While assigning Diaphragm turn off all other objects)
12- Assign Pier and Spandrel Label to Shear Wall.
13- Assign Loadings as given in UBC-97 table 16-A, 16-B & 16-C.
------------------------------------------------------------(Modeling Completed)
Analysis of the Building:
14- Set analysis options only P-Delta (P-Delta Case: 1.2 with D.L and 0.5 with L.L)
Number of Maximum iterations = 05.
15 After Verification of the Model then proceed for the other Floors respectively.
16 Verify analysis results for all the floors likewise manually.
17 Read analysis Results in this Way.
• Bending Moment and Shear Force of the Beams and Columns.
( Display>> Show Member forces >> Frame line )
• Axial load Diagram in the Columns and Values.
(Display>> Show Member forces >> Frame line)
• Basement Wall and Slabs are designed manually.
• Check the Sway of building/Storey Drift by
18 Check the sway of the structure at different points of the roof and check the storey thin
limits as per UBC-97 Clause 1630.10.
Dynamic Analysis:
19- Set Dynamic analysis in analysis options on. ( If required as per UBC-97 Clause
1629.5.3 applicable on the given Structure) Then insert appropriate dynamic parameters
like number of modes =3 times Number of Floors (Rizt Vector analysis)
20- Define Response Spectrum function as per UBC-97; insert values of Ca and Cv.
21- Define Response Spectrum Cases "SpecX" & "SpecY" inserting value of g=32.2ft/s2.
22- Run the analysis and change the "SpecX" & "SpecY" factors in final four Design
Combos. ( UDCON & UDWALL)
23- Check Modal mass participation Ratio should be more than 90% for EQ &SPEC cases.
(Analysis Completed)
Concrete Frame Design:
24- After verification of analysis results Select All Objects of the model and Design overwrite
whether the given building is in Special Moment Resisting Frame(SMRF), Intermediated
Moment Resisting Frame(IMRF) or Ordinary Moment Resisting Frame(OMRF): As per UBC-
97 Zone-1(OMRF), Zone 2A & 2B (IMRF) and Zone 3 & 4 (SMRF).
Shear Wall Design:
25- Select the Shear Wall and Overwrite for Uniform reinforcement. (Prefered)
(Design Completed)
