An intensive care unit (ICU) provides critical care and life support to
critically ill and injured patients. Working in an ICU, a nurse should be
responsible in assisting the patient to recover from his/her condition,
especially in administering medications or adhering to the medications. As a
student nurse who hasn't been inside an ICU, it is really expected to feel
pressured, especially since it is the life of the patient you will be
responsible for, that is why it is important to be mindful in doing the tasks
and practice empathy when it comes to dealing with patients, and always explain
to them the task or procedure you are going to perform to avoid anxiety and to
promote client education.
