1. Who is resisting this change and why?


- The scouts were the first to object to this policy. This was understandable given that the
decision was novel and too radical for the traditional scouts to accept all at once.

- On both sides of this debate, emotions play a significant role. On the one hand, the scouts
were emotionally charged, and they resorted to put-downs when logic failed them. The
manager, on the other hand, was adamant about his methods and demonstrated emotional
maturity to stand firm.

3. What tactics and behaviors do Billy Beane and Peter Brand use to overcome resistance to their
new approach?
- Even when things were not going well, Billy Beane and Peter Brand decided to stand firm
and remain optimistic about the approach. They communicated frequently is with the
players, the owner, and everyone else like sometimes to make their points, sometimes to
discuss differences of opinion, and always to ensure that people gradually understood the
importance and merit of the new approach. This also ensured that people who were
completely negative dropped out, leaving only the believers.
