Introductory The teacher and students will play a game entitled ‘I am in a Well.” The game
Activity will be as follow:
The teacher will write the definitions for the following terms on the board
Renaissance, exploration, inventions, compass, astrolabe, chart, quadrant,
navigate, navigation, printing press
Game
Teacher: I am in a well!
Students: How deep?
Teacher: deep deep!
Students: Who can take you out?
The teacher will randomly call the name of student.
Students: With What?
Teacher: With the word (select a word or a term from the list)
The teacher will give the student the word written on a strip of paper to match
it with its meaning written on the board. If the student incorrectly matches the
word student have the option of trying again. If not teachers goes back in the
well.
STEP 1 Students will then watch the video which will describe what the renaissance is
and the factors that led to the rebirth as well as its achievements (402)

Teacher and students will evaluate the video through discussion.
STEP 2
Students will carrying investigation using read various sources (primary and secondary
sources).This can be done offline or online on the:
i) factors that gave rise to the Renaissance
ii) the impact of the Renaissance on Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries
Discuss in groups, and make a report to the class
 Students will also draw connections to today, how have humans
changed?  At our core are we similar to those that lived during those
time?  In what ways?  Would you want to live during that time? Explain
how you imagine your life would be? 

STEP 3 In groups of five students create a collage of pictures or construct replicas of


the navigational instruments and other inventions during the Renaissance.
Students also have option to research online/offline sources for images and
create a digital photomontage on the navigational instruments and other
inventions during the Renaissance.
Students will describe and discuss the ways in which the various inventions
affected Europe in the 15th and 16th century and the world today. Teacher will
provide clarifications where needed
