I. Learning Objectives:
At the end of the class, the students are expected to:
interpret the meaning of the song through explaining each stanza;
create a painting or drawing by analyzing lyrics from the song; and
share viewpoints based on the ideas presented in the materials viewed.

Topic: “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong

Materials: Charts as presented in the LM
Pictures presented in the LM
Equipment: Video/Laptop; Projector; Speaker

ACTIVITY: Picture Analysis


 Have the students analyze the picture presented by the teacher. Ask them to share
their viewpoints upon seeing the picture.

ANALYSIS:
Use the activity as the springboard of the lesson.

 Tell the students that the earlier activity has something to do with the lesson for
today.
 Ask them the following questions:
1. Do you ever feel that the world is a wonderful place? When do you feel
that way?
2. What kind of things makes the world wonderful for you?
 Introduce Louis Armstrong by means of saying its short background/biography.

ABSTRACTION: Listening to the Song

 Have the student’s form four groups. Ask them to watch and listen the song
“What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.

Process this activity by asking the following questions:


1. From what perspective is the singer describing specific events?
2. Is the speaker recounting past events or events that are occurring in the
present?
3. Do you believe that these events have been recurring up to the present?
4. What is the message of the song?
5. Can you relate it to your life in any way? In what way?
6. Why do you think the composer wrote the song?

APPLICATION: Individual Activity

 Ask the students to choose a stanza from the song that they relate to and transfer
their feelings via paints, markers, etc. to the paper. (Play the song while they are
working.)
 Present to them the criteria for their work.
 Choose five students to present their work in front of the class.

IV. Assignment:
Read the story entitled “A Day in the Country” by Anton Chekhov pp. 279-284
on their books and look for three unfamiliar words.
